This blog is not for the light-hearted or easily offended. If either one of those descriptions applies to you, i would suggest you start drinking before you read this blog. A sense of humor is suggested. If you don't have one that sucks for you … find one and get a life!

Go ahead, amuse me Sarah

My guest today is Sarah from, well; she doesn’t have a blog YET.  But who could resist such an awesome email right?  Here it is below:

Hello there Lynn,

I read TheBloggess and saw your Fooked Up ad and decided to chance it, even though I’d yet to start drinking. So, there’s proof that advertising works and that it’s not five o’clock here yet.

Anyway… here is (yet another, I’m sure) submission for a guest post for “Go ahead, amuse me”. I’ve toyed with the idea of having a blog, but I have a similar problem with being creative one way at a time…also it’s stressful to try to be funny on a daily basis.

People tell me I’m funny, and that if all else fails that I could be successful as a stand up comedian. I tell them probably not, because I’m too lazy to stand the whole time I’m working. My friends and family tend to laugh at me a lot. We all pretend it’s because they think I’m funny. This may or may not coincide with your opinion of this email. Either way below is a draft of a blog that I almost started.

You may think it’s funny. Let me know. Or not. Meanwhile, please enjoy this inspirational quote from Alan Alda, and also this picture of people laughing (possibly at this email) and not killing anyone.

Hi. My name is Erin. This is my blog.

Actually, that’s a lie. Well, not the “Hi” part. That’s true. My name is not actually Erin. It’s Sarah. That’s right, I said “Erica”. Not really, but apparently that’s what people hear every time I answer the phone with this hard-to-interpret phrase: “This is Sarah. How can I help you?” It usually goes a little something like this…hit it!

Me:            This is Sarah. How can I help you?

Caller:        Erin?

Me:            Sarah.

Caller:        Erica?

Me:            Sarah.

Caller:        Can you spell that for me?

Me:            S

Me:            A

Me:            R

Me:            A

Me:            H

Caller:        OH! Sarah. Ok. Hi. I need to make an appointment for my daughter.

Me:            I’m sorry, you have the wrong department. This isn’t pediatrics. Let me transfer you.

Caller:        Oh. Really? This is the number they gave me.

Me:            I’m sorry, I can transfer you though.

Caller:        Is this 254-555-(not the right number to pediatrics)?

Me:            Yes.

Caller:        Then this should be pediatrics.

Me:            Except that it’s not. Please hold.

But I digress.

This is also not my blog. This is an email of a draft of a potential blog that I will be sending to my friend and cohort (yes, I said cohort, Whatever the hell that means) to determine whether or not I should actually attempt to start a blog. Not like I need her permission or anything. I’m just saying.

The idea for starting a blog came from my friend “suggesting” (not through the power of hypnosis) that I take an aptitude test. She gave me a link and everything. Turns out, the link is for High School Students and/or Their Parents. Neither of which am I.

So, of course, I took the test. It determined that I should be a writer. Or a journalist. Or a novelist. Or an English professor. Or a stand-up comedian. Or a high school drama teacher.

Subsequently, and oddly coincidental, my friend sent me a couple of links to some really funny blogs. Then she said that we should totally start our own blogs because we are pretty freakin funny too. And that’s where the idea came from. Not from the 465496874361468746 other really funny blogs on the Internet.

I swear…or my name’s not Erin. Or Erica.

Go ahead, amuse me is a weekly posting I will be having featuring another funny blogger.  Or maybe not a blogger … you could just be a funny person.  So, if you would like to be featured all you have to do is email me at allfookedup@gmail.com and send me a funny post.  If I AGREE that it’s funny, I’ll simply put up your post with a short intro that you write so that my readers will check out your blog.  Of course, you also need to put up a link to my blog saying that you’re being featured over here.

See? WIN-WIN … hope to hear from you … or not!

Good job! I totally agree laughter is the best medicine. There are so many things in life that are freaking funny. I’m not overly political but the politicians are especially good fodder for this.

Good luck on the future blogs!

Erin, Erica, Sarah whoever you want to be or are you ARE funny and should totally start a blog. Doesn’t require a daily committment. You can just put into it what you want and in turn get a great deal of satisfaction. AND you can be whomever you would like so maybe you want to try out something new…Fiona? Alexandra? Those are just a couple of names I can think of off the top of my head. Happy writing ;)

Aw! Thanks! Everyone is so sweet and encouraging…now I feel guilty for my overachieving laziness. Maybe with the help of you wonderful people (and spell check–thanks Lynn), I will actually start writing :)

Damn you Erin, Erica, Whosherbucket, damn you! My name is Venus and I *had* planned to write about this very same thing (how amazingly wrong people get my name over the phone) on my gee-I-hope-I’m-funny blog. Thanks for stealing my moment. :-)

All kidding aside, Sarah, you’re funny, keep it up!

    And damn you.

      Dear Venus:
Wow, really? Sounds like you might need to double up on those anger management classes. I can’t imagine that anyone would ever get such a simple, common name wrong. In any case, I’m sure that your post would be way funnier and far more originaler than mine…I say do it! Of course my opinion only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. (It counts double if you’re playing horseshoes WITH hand grenades though.)
      Damn you too.
      Love,
      Sarah

Sarah, this is my personal addition to this guest blog :) and since I know you in real life and all I think these people should really stop filling your head with fluff, for one because I actually have to maintain a friendship with you and I can’t stand listening to you go on and on about how great people think you are…or for two (the real reason!) b/c I’ve been saying since you were just a nobody (this summer) that you should be blogging. Stop feeling the happy sappy feelings and get on it. :)

See, um, uh, what had happened was…I don’t know, but I’m sorry. Be careful what you ask for, because you just might get an onslaught of emailed ridiculousity. (That’s totally a word…patent pending.)

Nice one, Sarah. I don’t know about Lynn, but it can be a daily battle with the laziness to try to produce a blog post. I respect your not having a blog but if you wanted to and were ready to go head-to-head with laziness, you could do it!

    Erin/erica/sarah,
I totally think you should go for it. You’ll only be part of a small minority, a mere 36594678513278 blogs to have started, then been left behind when the writers achieved a real life (or possibly real death) but for now join us who have very little life.

I too took the sober chance and clicked the link from theblogess.com.
