In which 2013 needs a do over already

It’s January 3rd and here’s how my year is going so far.  Thought you’d like to know.  Don’t want to know? Then why the hell do you read this blog?  I mean, It’s all about me.  Well it’s mostly about me … and my family … my thoughts … opinions … you get the picture.

So on New Years Eve Kevin and I went out to see a movie and then out to dinner.  I had a few drinks.  At the movie I had popcorn and truth be told I had been feeling a little queasy all day.  I attributed that to Kevin making me carsick when we did things that day.  That’s why I always try to drive because when someone else drives I always feel ill.

Things were going well until about 1 in the morning and I started feeling sick, real sick.  Not just nauseous but stomach hurting and the whole nine yards.  Yup, you guessed it: stomach flu.  So basically I spent the very beginning of 2013 hurling in the bathroom.

New Year’s Day I was just lying on the couch all day.  Keely was on her way back from Atlanta and Andie was on her way back from DC and Daniel only had about a 5 minute drive home but didn’t make it back until late either.  I had Kevin make a fire since our heater has been broken for 3 weeks now.  You heard me, three fucking weeks.

It’s not totally broken however; it keeps the temperature around 63 or 64 which doesn’t seem too bad unless it’s like that for 3 weeks.  So we had a fire and finally everyone was home and I noticed this god-awful smell.

Of course, it was my dog Tucker, and he had shit and peed all over the dining room rug.  That is the ONLY nice rug in my house and he had totally destroyed it.  Kevin and I went to clean it up and I was basically thinking, “well this day sucks.”

End of story right?  Wrong, I woke up yesterday January 2 to another round of shit all over the carpet.  This time I barely cleaned it up and called the rug people to come pick up the damn thing.  I know Tucker is old and having issues but I’m totally over all of this.  I love him but if I wanted to deal with shit I’d have little kids again. (Not that I can…just saying)

Then I went to make my milkshake and I was out of my powder because I had put it all in Kevin’s car not knowing that I didn’t have more in the pantry.  Argggghhhhh!!

Then there’s all this drama and angst over the move to Los Angeles what with the car and no apartment and no roommate and ugggghhhhh…

Yesterday we went down to Duke for a checkup on Keely’s hip and that’s doing great so I should be grateful but instead, I’m just waiting for something else to go wrong.  Oh yeah, Butterscotch (cat) has pinkeye. I forgot to mention that.

Well, that’s me bitching and moaning about the beginning of the New Year. I think I’m going to pretend I’m in a different time zone and count those two days as 2012 so that 2013 starts today.

So far so good.  Hope your year is going well.

Just wanted to let you know, you truly inspired me to finally write my very first blog post…after 2 years of being a ‘lurker’ on everyone’s blogs, I finally went for it. I’m pretty sure my family will be the only readers. Have instructed my mom to please not be the one and only comment, and for the love of God, to please not sign, “Love, Mom.”

I finally decided it was more for me than anyone. Thanks!

(Sorry you had a rough entry to 2013…hope it only gets better!)

Just pretend to be an Orthodox Christian. They never moved up to the … I always forget whether the Julian or Gregorian calendar is the newer one. But anyway, they never changed. So the first of the year is the 13th. So there you go.

My toilet has been auto-flushing since Nov 1. For 3 weeks it didn’t flush at all. Then they fixed the flusher but not the automatic flushing part. So 24 hours a day, every 8 seconds, it auto-flushes. I have to keep the door of the bathroom closed because otherwise I will lose my mind. So the rest of the apt is warm and it’s about 58 degrees in the bathroom. So I feel ya.

In other news, you’re moving to LA?

I could NOT handle that. No, my daughter is moving to LA … Not me. I’m a bit old to be starting over. She’s 23 and starting a PA job on the 24th.

    OMG….what a disaster continuum!

My favorite part of your post: “So far so good.”

Here’s to hoping it gets “gooder”.

Well, you could look at it this way–you’re just getting the bad stuff out of the way so you can enjoy the rest of the year! Hope all is well.

Since, after reading through the previous comments, I see things are moving in a more positive direction for you, I think Kevin and you should totally have a “do over” New Year’s Eve celebration tonight. Go on, do it!!
Hope the rest of the year is much better for you :-)

I’m pretending the new year starts today! Somehow, I’m just getting a slow start on all that new leaf stuff.

I too managed to pick up the stomach flu but I at least did it at Thanksgiving. Slightly better? I guess? Hope you’re feeling better.

That smell from the rug has been all over our home lately because of our old dog. Just figures as soon as the kids are out of diapers here right? How about a do-over, 2013 starts on the 13th? :)
