In which Andie wrote “the blues”

strange flora - drop of ink going through water

Last week, Andie and I somehow got on the subject of “blues” songs.  Then she asked me if I remembered the time where she had to compose a “blues” song for a homework assignment in school. (Don’t ask me why)

Of course I remembered and we started reminiscing about how she didn’t “win” although she did get a fantastic grade on the assignment.  You see, as usual, I helped with the assignment.  I mean, I didn’t “write” it but I was pretty involved with my kids school life.

At any rate, I told her I thought I still had the song on my computer, which is amazing since she wrote it in 2003.  Sure enough, I tracked it down and we read it and marveled at what a “terrific” song it was.

I can’t even imagine how such a joint effort didn’t win.  At any rate, it’s such a good song I thought I should share it with you.

Homework Blues Song

Woke up this morning, sky was cold and gray

I knew it was gonna be a really lousy day.

Yes I knew it was gonna be a really lousy day.

I went to get my breakfast, the bread was growing mold

I tried to drink some coffee but the stuff was so darn old

Yes the stuff was so darn old

I went to get my clothes on, my pants were old and torn

I was feeling pretty crappy, sad and real forlorn

Yes I was feeling pretty crappy, sad and real forlorn.

I was walking down the stairs and I fell and broke my leg

I hobbled to the doctor and he fixed my arm instead

Yes I hobbled to the doctor and he fixed my arm instead

So now I have the gangrene and my leg is all on fire

A hobo named Little Big Willie cut it off with copper wire

Oh a Hobo named Little Big Willie cut it off with copper wire

Woke up this morning, sky was cold and gray

I knew it was gonna be a really lousy day.

Yes I knew it was gonna be a really lousy day.

OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s great. We had to write a song in fifth grade, too. It must have been the universal assignment. I hated ours, but I still remember the fucking thing. No, I won’t repeat it.
