In which grocery stores don’t give a shit

You know something that drives me absolutely insane about Grocery Stores now? Well I’m going to tell you. It’s the fact that they discontinue product’s whenever the hell they want with absolutely not warning.
This practice has been going on for years and lately it’s been particularly galling. Here’s an example.

I like cottage cheese.

I often buy cottage cheese.

I mostly shop at Fresh Market.

I also shop at Harris Teeter.

Back in the day I mostly shopped at Harris Teeter because I had 5 people living in my house and we needed lots of food and cereal and staples and such.

Now we have just the two of us living in the house so I basically just need a few items beyond the basics, which I can just get occasionally.

I always have on hand: yogurt, cottage cheese, milk, orange juice, cereal (for Kevin), raisins (for Kevin’s cereal), almonds (so that California can run out of water) and salad and vegetable stuff. That’s the main stuff that always needs to be there.

On the rare occasions that I cook I pick up that stuff that day and when the kids are around I have bread and luncheon meats and stuff.

So back to cottage cheese.

I like it and I like it for lunch.

I have always eaten Light & Lively 1% Cottage Cheese.

Fresh Market stopped carrying it a few years ago.

I don’t know why but I was pissed and I adjusted.

How did I adjust?

I either bought Friendship 1% Cottage Cheese when I was in Fresh Market or if I was at Harris Teeter I bought Light & Lively although for a while they discontinued it too or only had the stupid store brand. I guess a ton of people complained because eventually Light and Lively reappeared.

So I’ve been having Friendship 1% for years and all of sudden they’re not carrying it at Fresh Market. They HAVE Friendship for they either have 4% or they have NO SALT 1% Cottage Cheese. I did try that once and it was awful.

When I asked about it I was informed it was a “corporate decision” and that’s what galls me. They also don’t carry the Fage yogurt I like anymore because they are basically huge Chobani fans. I don’t understand why they don’t give a shit what their customers want. It’s like they make these deals with the manufacturers and customers be damned.

Today they didn’t have the cottage cheese OR the yogurt I wanted and I’ve tried their new brand (Horizon Organic) and it was awful and I have a new one today (the name escapes me but I’m not optimistic but it’s raining and I didn’t want to run to another store.)

Anyways, just thought I’d rant. After all, that’s basically what I do.

Drives me nuts too…..I used to buy a certain type of iced tea and I loved it….went through gallons of it, and then one day I went back and just gone… chance to stock up because I knew it was leaving…..just something else where it used to be. This was about 15 years ago now. You’d think I could let it go, but every time I pass the iced tea aisle I feel a small pang.
