In which i ask my first question

As someone who sits around and daydreams about random things much of her life, I often wonder what other people spend their time doing.  One of the things I have noticed at that people seem to be quite busy.  I have shit to do also although I often ignore that in order to do my favorite activity, which is undoubtedly wasting time, or daydreaming as it were.

Obviously, since this is my blog, you can see that I spend more than my fair share of time just talking about random and odd shit. I have a vivid imagination and there’s nothing I enjoy more than silly conversations.  When I onced mentioned to Daniel that our family seems to have an inordinate amount of crazy conversations on ridiculous topics, he said “I like that about our family!”  Truly, so do I.

So, I have decided that every once in a while I’ll have a “random question” post.  In this random question, I shall post the question and give MY answer and I would love, love, love it if you would give your answer.

WHY?  I don’t know.  I answer a fair amount of memes on LiveJournal and you know what?  They’re fun!

So, with out further ado, here is my first question and answer?

Have you ever eaten a crayon?

Well, I don’t actually remember eating a crayon but I was a little kid so it’s certainly possible.  I will tell you that I definitely used to eat Play-Doh.  I did!  When I was little I thought it tasted yummy and I would eat it!  I had to do it when my mom wasn’t around though because it really didn’t make her happy.

So there you are, how about you guys?  Have you ever eaten a crayon?

I have to admit. I’ve bit the top of the crayon off and ate it, but that was about it. To eat the whole crayon, yuk.

I can safely say I’ve never eaten a crayon, catfood, earth, worms or any other dodgy substance. I once ate a dodgy kipper and regretted it for 48 hours however.

perhaps thats a bad thing to eat but the way you described it as “dodgy” totally makes it worthwhile. Really Sarah? Even as a kid you never put that stuff in your mouth?

Nope, not even as a wee nipper. I had 2 brothers who tested out all that sort of thing. I was more interested in my (all male) teddies and my garage of Dinky cars.

Yes, I remember eating a crayon and finding it to taste like wax paper. I can’t remember exactly when but it couldnt have been to long ago for me to remember. I guess I must have also tried wax paper since I seem to also know what that tastes like also. As I recall I was trying to see if I could color my teeth with a blue crayon. It didn’t taste too bad.

such a funny statement! Why did you want your teeth blue?

I am not sure about the crayon thing… I know my son has tried clay (in 9th grade ceramics class) and I touch my wet nailpolish to my tongue to check if it’s dry… do either of those “oddities” count?

    • Lynn

I’m not sure…I just thought it was an odd question and wondered if people ate crayons…9th grade he ate clay? OMG

I’ve never eaten a crayon. I’ve eaten Play Doh and paste and grass. I did like to melt the crayon to make stained glass type coloring on my coloring book, though. And now I cannot remember how I went about melting them. Glad my mother doesn’t know….

I’m going to turn this question over to Zoe, 21 months.

Aw, hell, I’m SO fucking boring! I haven’t eaten crayons, play-doh, markers, glue or even buggers! What the hell’s wrong with me? My son ate dirt and rocks though…does that count? Since I birthed the little brat.. I mean he had to get THAT from somewhere…oh wait, his dad is weird. Never mind…

I have not eaten crayons. I did however dabble in dry dog food as a toddler. It tasted like what I would imagine a brown crayon would taste like, so I kind of HAVE eaten a crayon. (See how I did that there?)

How bizarre! I myself have never eaten a crayon, but I recently wrote a post about a boy in third grade who did. It was blue. He was really, really weird and a “problem child.” I hadn’t known eating crayons was a thing. Maybe he wasn’t so weird after all.

I have never eaten a crayon, but God do I love the smell of them!!! I have a couple of boxes in my desk drawer and that is primarily how they are used. (yes, I might color occasionally when my inner 3 year-old decides to out herself). Those scented markers mentioned by Julie were the bomb, too. And even though I hated the way the brown (cinnamon) and black (licorice) smelled, I still had to go down the box and sniff EACH one in rainbow order. Okay, gotta go take some quizzes online to confirm what sounds like a massive case of OCD now that I read my post again.

      Another crayon sniffer…interesting

  16. Trinh
    December 16, 2011

I have not actually eaten a crayon though I have tasted a sliver. There’s no denying that a fresh box of crayola makes me want to stick my nose directly into the box…the top of the box otherwise I might wedge a few pointy ends up my nostrils. I can still remember sharpening my crayon in the back of the box and being drawn to that little sliver shaved off of my periwinkle stick. I couldn’t resist. Slipped it on my tongue and realized that it wasn’t as good as it smelled (true of a lot of things still!). Good thing they didn’t make scented crayons like they make scented markers. (Spent a lot of time sniffing those as well). Now that I think I about it, I guess I was more a sniffer than a taster.

Think about having a “guest” question where readers can ask you random questions and all you have to do is answer. Maybe the whole family could answer and we could vote on the cleverest response. Just a random thought.

I won’t say that I haven’t eaten a crayon because you won’t believe me. Plus, I probably did and just don’t remember it. I do remember that my uncle colored on me with crayons because I told him “you can’t color on people, just papers and walls…the color won’t show up on people.” I was wrong. In other crayon related news: recently, when I hopped the fence behind a motel that doesn’t leave the light on for you, I broke the crayon that I hid in my pocket when I stole it from the restaurant where I was coloring on my placemat. I never got to finish coloring that placemat, and the crayon is ruined. See kids, crime doesn’t pay. (Also, by “hop the fence” I mean tumbled over awkwardly, almost breaking my neck.)

I don’t ever remember eating a crayon…I do remember paste, play-doh, a couple coins (have no idea if they’ve come out though, but if they haven’t, with interest I could possibly be rich!) and cat food was also a fav for me for some reason.

Sadly, I remember eating dirt as a kid. It is so gross to think back to it. There was always a line of dirt right up against the curb on the busy city street I grew up on…and yeah, took a mouth full and ate it. I have no idea why! Probably would have been better off eating a box of crayons!

I know a dog that ate crayons and a day later at the dog park he shat a completely blue poop. We called it the smurf poop and took a pic of it on our phones and went around showing people and telling them that smurfs lived in the woods.

My question to you, Lynn, is HOW IN THE WORLD do you keep up with all the comments on your blog? As a new blogger I sometimes feel like my head is going to explode: trying to write material, research blogging, work on my zazzle store, and keep up with the demands of life beyond the computer. :-)

i don’t actually get that many comments…the people who do get a ton can’t really respond to them all. What kind of research do you do for blogging? I don’t do that. I also have grown kids so i have a lot of time. I also do NOT have a Zazzle store so therefore my time isn’t limited.

      • Gwendolyn Francis
        December 18, 2011

Well, to answer your ? re: blog research let me start by giving u my brief back story so you don’t think I’m totally insane (but probably will anyway.) Over the last 25+ yrs I have worked in really gut-wrenching jobs in human services: locked psych units, horrific child abuse cases & taking kids away from parents, testifying in court, getting physically threatened & attacked, and most recently working with mentally ill, impoverished cancer patients (for eg. this would be one pt: no health ins. can’t afford tx or meds, no transportation to get to clinic, utilities getting turned off, getting evicted, etc. or 2 parents w/ young kids & both have cancer.) Got laid off in August and realized I CANNOT go back into the helping profession. I am burnt out and done. Can’t go back to school to get degrees in something else b/c I am already buried in student loan debt b/c these jobs paid crap. I’m single so I have no back up help to depend on and I am making VERY little money b/c unemployment is less than the pathetic salary I was earning. SO I am desperately trying to make a living being self-employed and I’m trying to use this limited unemployment collecting time to get everything off the ground. My dream is having my blog, writing books, my photography, and my zazzle store and my holistic private practice (yes I have another side that is not sick & twisted) be able to financially support me. SO, the things I am doing re: research for blog…
        1. How do I get my blog on Kindle
        2. How do I get my blog on Google Reader
        3. Contact other pro-bloggers and ask how they got to the point of being able to support themselves
        4. Look into adwords to advertise for my blog
        5. Write a kindle ebook to draw traffic to blog (researching how do I do that)
        6. Praying others (like you! thanks for posting my stuff) will help me.
        7. Making short crazy funny videos to draw traffic to my blog
        8. Create Zazzle store to offer both my photography & funny items
        9. See if I can get commentluv on my blog b/c blogger comment template sucks.
        10. Find out like, how did you get on the bloggess’ list?
        11. etc. etc.

Sorry for the long response! Hope it doesn’t drive you mad.

hmmm…well, all that stuff does get answered at blogging conferences. How to drive more traffic? all that stuff…basically, it’s just getting to know other bloggers and becoming part of the community.

I don’t really do this but most people do. To get a lot of traffic is NOT easy at all since there’s so many blogs out there. Good luck with that. It just takes time and patience.

I’ve always been a pretty picky eater, so no. My sister on the other hand, put anything in her mouth. She started with licking a cactus, which as you can imagine didn’t make her happy. She then tried a Christmas ornament, again not quite what she was looking for.

I can’t tell you a silly story about eating a crayon but I must have because somehow I know exactly what one tastes like. Also, I’m with you on the play-doh. I used to love the way it smelled so much that I would roll it up into teensy balls & shove them up my nose holes so far that my mom had to dig ’em out with tooth picks. I wish I could say that it only happened once, but I cant. Play-doh & Barbie tennis balls always seemed to find their way up my schnoz (sp?).
