In which i dry myself

Kevin’s been traveling a lot lately and Daniels back in school so I have a lot of time to myself.  A LOT!

Do I do anything productive with this time? RARELY

Do I spend a lot of time spaced out and thinking of stuff?  YES, I DO

What’s the point of these questions? Well, I’ll tell you

A few weeks ago I was taking a shower.  I know right? Shocking.  I take really fast showers; I have ever since I was a kid.  I think this is because I was a swimmer and I had practice before school so getting showered, dressed and ready had to be really quick and efficient.

At any rate, as I was drying off I realized that I have a routine for this.

A routine for drying off?  Why YES I DO.

I was pondering it and it made me wonder, do people have a routine for everything?  A few days after that the phone rang while I was in the shower and I grabbed a towel and then ran to get the phone.  After the call, I realized that I was all messed up and couldn’t figure out how to dry off so I had to IMPROVISE.

I mean, I DID, dry off that is, but it was all kinds of messed up.

So, back to the present.  Kevin usually takes two showers a day.  Now you know!!!  One in the morning before work and then one at night when he gets home from working out.  So he was in the shower and I was explaining my “drying off” epiphany and he said “well, you like routine so I’m not surprised.”

I told him I thought EVERYBODY had a routine and he wasn’t sure that was true.  After all, for him a shower is a RELAXING experience and for me (I hate showering) it’s a means towards an end.

So this morning we had the following conversation:

Kevin:             Lynn, guess what? I have a toweling off routine too!

Me:                  I knew it!

Kevin:             I think you might be right. People do the same thing everyday.

Me:                  Ha!  And you were telling me I was stupid

Kevin:             Remember last night that I told you I started by drying my face?

Me:                  Yeah

Kevin:             … and then I stand there for a few minutes and just chill

Me:                  Yeah

Kevin:             Well then I dry my hair …

Me:                  OK

Kevin:             … and then I do my chest

Me:                  ummm

Kevin:             … and then I do my back like this (and he demonstrates this)

Me:                  ummm Kevin

Kevin:             yeah

Me:                  you’re 6’5” tall. You’re seriously not going to go through your entire drying routine are you?

Kevin:             I was agreeing with you

Me:                  yeah, but I got shit to do today!

Kevin:             You’re unbelievable.  You brought it up.

Me:                  Yeah, because the IDEA was interesting.  Not your entire routine.

And then I started walking out

Kevin:             Hey! Where are you going?

Me:                  Oh, I just wanted my idea validated.  That’s really all that’s important.

Kevin:             I can’t believe I even bother with you.

And you know what?  I can’t believe he bothers with me either…

I’m just saying …

OMG – I hate showering too.. well, not actually showering, but the aftermath of being wet.
Same with swimming pools. Love swimming, HATE drying off and peeling that suit off.
    Eww… and slimy tiles. Ugh.
    I’m just saying.

well, i can ONLY IMAGINE what you’ve done with your hair. Mine is curly so requires a LOT of brushing and copious amounts of product in it.

Wait – are you telling me that there are people out there who don’t have a routine. That’s just crazy talk. How do they get through the day? And if you start your day by showering and drying just willy-nilly, you’re already an anarchist.

This got me thinking, I don’t have a post shower drying routine, with the exception that I sometimes wrap a towel around my head cause my hair is longer.

And the post about your mother, if that was her in the picture, she was beautiful. I lost my mom 8 years ago. Still hurts.

i almost wish i didn’t read this post. because now? now i DO have a shower routine. it goes like this: i get done showering and i realize that the only thing i do constant is wipe off my face first and then think of you and how i don’t have a specific order for wiping off my other parts.

so yeah. you are probably now wishing i didn’t read your post either.

ok…i read this to my husband and then i cracked up. One at the thought of you now thinking about it but the fact that you think of ME now is hysterically creepy.

          hahahaha

          sorry to fuck you up

I think everyone has a routine, whether they realize it or not. And they days they “forgot” something is because they deviated from the routine. My husband would say his routine is that he is “unpredictable” but that is so not true. Of course his routine this morning, for some reason, included turning on the TV. Which just pissed me off.

i have lived in this house 10 years and have never, not once, used my bathtub. I didn’t even want one but the builder told me to put it in for resale value.

I stopped taking long showers when I had kids. By the time they get old enough for me to take long showers again, they’ll be teens and be the ones taking the long showers, won’t they?

I start with a head swipe, dab the face, hands to shoulders, then the legs & a feet swaddling, into flip flops (thats right, nothing in the middle gets attention, I air dry)….

I love water and swimming, but being wet and cold is not my idea of fun. And I am both when I turn off the water unless it’s 80ish and it rarely is that temp here. I have never been one to sweat a lot and showering makes my skin itchy and dry so I save it for every other day lol. Sometimes if I have to wash my hair I do it in the sink I am that lazy and adverse to getting cold and wet. When we put in our new bathroom I made my husband take out the tub and just put in a big shower. Everyone was shocked I did not want a tub. No kids, no need. And yes there is a distinct method to my drying off, head first and wrap hair in one towel, then chest, arms, back, slide to legs, done. And if you watch yourself, you put on shoes and socks the same way every time too. I noticed that little weirdness years ago and if I try to switch it up, it’s like the shoes don’t even feel right after they’re on! I get so confused! LOL

i have no routine with shoes. it’s whichever shoe i pick up first.

of course, i mostly wear sneakers and flip flops anyways. i hate the tub…never used it. EVER. 10 years
