Random musings

I’m sitting here in the office and my fish are swimming around and that’s crazy since I was gone for a week and on the second day I asked Kevin how the fish were and he had totally forgotten them! I guess he eventually remembered them since they’re still alive. Their water was evaporating rapidly though but I fixed that yesterday.

So, here goes:

Maya Angelou – I was really glad that I got to hear her speak and even meet her last year when she spoke in Greensboro for the United Way. I wasn’t truly a huge fan of hers before then. It’s not that I disliked her; I simply didn’t care one way or another. But when she spoke she was amazing! She was forthright and truthful and she spoke with such inspiration and vigor that it’s amazing she was so frail.

At any rate, rest in peace Maya and thanks for being you.

Health — a friend of mine was recently diagnosed with advanced Stage 4 cancer. He didn’t really even have a lot of symptoms and in fact, they all thought he had a disc problem in his back. I hope he will be ok and we will find out soon BUT it really made me stop and think that you just don’t know how long you’ll be here so maybe I should start being a little bit more appreciative.

Kids – I’m pretty lucky with my kids. Sure they’re all smart asses and such and we’ve had more than our fair share of health problems but they’re smart, happy and doing well so that’s luckier than most.

Guns – I’m so fucking over this gun thing. There are always going to be mentally ill people around and they need help to but the easy accessibility to guns is a huge problem. When is that going to change? How much needs to happen? How many people need to die???

Blame – so I see a lot of people blaming this kids parents and actually they were trying to do all the right things. They had him in therapy, they called the police, they struggled but as you can see it’s not that easy to stop crazy people. Especially if they’re capable of sweet talking six cops into believing they’re normal.

Nasty politics – these ads are so awful that I can’t imagine why anyone would ever run for congress. Not only that but I certainly can’t figure out why these people who are so mean and stingy about helping others are getting voted in. I don’t really like to give a bunch of money to the government either but I couldn’t sleep at night knowing that people are starving, especially kids, and I never helped. WTF is wrong with these people??

Global warming – how is this still a discussion? It’s a fact, a FACT, and while it won’t be a huge problem during my lifetime it certainly will cause chaos eventually.

Religion – why can’t people live and let live? Can’t you believe your stuff and I’ll believe my stuff and we can get along? Apparently not but why???

Women – how is it possible in 2014 that a father and a brother can stone a pregnant woman to death because they didn’t like who she married? On the other hand, could we please stop trying to change the world? Other people don’t seem to want democracy so lets stop killing our youth trying to make them. That’s my opinion.

Ok, that’s it for now. My dog is over there licking his ass. I guess there’s problems both big and small.

I agree with many of your musings.
I too, am sick and tired of the venomous sarcasm, the intolerance of a difference of opinion and general arrogant attitude of so many today. I often get on Facebook and want to delete friends I’ve known for 30+ years because of rants on religion, politics and guns. I use Facebook for amusement purposes only ~ maybe I’m unusual in that regard (I keep my politics to myself). If I may take the liberty of quoting a line from a movie classic~
    “Lighten up, Francis!”

OMG you crack me up…and your sentiments mimic mine almost exactly. My mother and I had conversations over this past week with just about everything you mentioned. We finally decided that somehow we need to reset society and then decided that I would run for president. My first order of business…fire congress and the senate and start all over. = )

As for the stoning…I struggled with this story on a couple of levels. I believe that the cultures in other countries I may not understand or agree with or understand. And that 99% of the time I figure it’s their culture let them be. BUT stoning a woman (or anyone) seems so barbaric that I can’t believe, like you, that in today’s world this still exists.
