In which i rant about the election

opinion

I was just driving home from the gym and the car in front of me had this bumper sticker on it:

A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.

I thought about it and I thought that was apt for the present time. After all, people are completely disgusted with government and therefore many didn’t go to the polls. The people who DO go to the polls are the people who feel strongly and they seem to be more conservative in the way they vote.

I wouldn’t say that I’m a “liberal” but I know for a fact that I’m not a conservative. I believe that people have the right to their own bodies. I believe that all people have a right to decent education and healthcare. I believe that just because you are born in unfortunate circumstances that you shouldn’t be punished for that.

Do I think there are things wrong with our current system of handouts? Yes, but I think fixing it is better than scrapping it.

Anyways, I’m pretty disgusted with things here in North Carolina. Education has been slashed and there’s a massive assault on women’s rights. Not only that, but the state legislature took away the option for college student’s to vote on campus and therefore, unless you registered to vote nearby you simply couldn’t vote.

Up at Appalachian they protested because that’s 18000 fairly liberal voters but I’m pretty sure that’s exactly why the law was passed. After all, if you make it really difficult for young people to vote they simply won’t. And since they tend to vote more liberal it’s quite a win for the conservatives who, by the way, are the ones who [ass the law.

So, while I certainly don’t agree with much of what Obama and his ilk have done, I think pandering to big business, banks and oil and such will only get us in a worse mess. Do you realize that back when Eisenhower was president the taxes were around 80% or something if you made a shit ton of money? That only affects some people but as the wealthy get wealthier they are also having a disproportionate impact on elections and government.

So sheep out there, don’t you think it’s time that the populace takes over? It’s not that the ideals voting in represent “the people.” It’s that the people have basically given up and quit voting so it represents the people who really want something done their way.

And those people don’t really represent the people who need it most.

It’s so frustrating. I can’t even imagine why a anyone would want to go into public service but as long as they do don’t we owe it to ourselves to research what the best ones are.

After all, although you can’t lie about what’s in your hot dogs that you buy you can have political ads that lie left and right about the candidates. What’s wrong with this country?

Just my opinion …

They are all a bunch of liars with pants on fire! Drives me batty, and I think we need to start from scratch and make some changes. I was researching wealth, and in the top 10 wealthiest Congressional members, 8 are Dems. And that is fine, except how they increase their wealth. I don’t like it one bit. It is a slippery slope that Congress is legally allowed insider trading, and in that top 10 some are married to financial hedge fund/ bankers/ financial gurus… So, if you are able to know where the next great thing is by way of insider trading, it is a WIN! WIN! and the cash flows like a loose slot machine in Vegas no matter which side of the aisle you sit on. Money. All about the money. I am socially liberal…Fiscally conservative, and if they can find a way to cheat the damn system and get rich off of it, they can find a way to fully fund education in this country! I would settle for K-12 to start! And like I said…that goes for both sides. … ooh thanks Lynn…rant over… can go to sleep now.

AND 32 of the top 50 wealthiest are Republicans….. which is neither here nor there either way. We need to stop thinking DEMS vs. REPUBS, and start thinking AMERICANS. We have totally lost our “government for the people, by …. well, you know the rest.
