In which i’m asking you to help

What the hell

I used to be a technical person back in the day.  Don’t you love that expression…like when we lived in caves and used the FIRST computers, which were really just terminals connected to computers the size of rooms.  At any rate, I was a computer programmer and I knew how to take apart a computer, change the motherboard and do other assorted shit to it.  Mind you, I didn’t enjoy the technical crap; I could just do it.

Fast forward 25 years and now I’ve hired someone to design my blog.  I could have done it myself but I really just liked designing databases and not actually reading technical manuals.  So, last December I redesigned the blog to what you see here.  Since that time, I have gone to two blogging conferences and every time I go I learn little things that should be changed on my blog.

I then send an email to the people in charge of my blog asking them to make changes.  They do it, but keep letting me know that I COULD just change it all myself.  The thing is, I don’t really want to be responsible for the code portion of my blog.  I really only want to be responsible for the fun portion of my blog although I’m actually waiting to see what part that is.

Mostly what I learned at the conference that I COULD and probably SHOULD be doing a LOT more for this here blog.  However, that would take time and I don’t feel like it.  I was stunned and amazed at the sheer amount of time other bloggers spent writing, commenting, sharing, submitting and promoting their blogs.  And many of the bloggers had MORE than one blog.  It’s astonishing to me.  I get that to many people, this will be the way they earn a living so just like in any job, it takes time to build up a business, or “brand” as it were, but there were plenty of people who were like me, just in it for the fun.

And yet, these people were also online SO MUCH just reading and commenting and promoting.  It wasn’t like I didn’t realize after Blissdom that much of the blog world is about connecting with other bloggers and helping them by reading, commenting and retweeting and that they would then do the same for you; I knew that. I just couldn’t do it though; at least not consistently.  NO, what amazed me is how many people do just that.  They read and link up and comment and I suppose it really works, as their numbers are far higher than mine.

But folks, it’s just not happening here.  Although I like many of the people I met personally, I’m just not all that interested in your family.  I’m barely interested in my family and trust me, I can’t even shake them.  I’m sure your kid…or your opinions…or your horrific experiences that molded you are interesting; just not to me!  I’m just a selfish bitch.  There, I said it.

I always realized that my kids were only interesting to me and I suppose that’s why I spend a fair amount of time dissing them in public.  I choose to make my kids a funny part of my life and have taught them to basically keep their accomplishments to themselves and a few close people.  After all, there’s nothing worse than someone accomplishing something and then the people around them feel like shit, right?

So, back to the blog.  There were a few things that I learned that I could ACTUALLY do.  First, they told me to tag my pictures as well as the blog posts.  What the hell, I can do that.  Second they told me it was perfectly all right to ask my READERS to help me out so that’s what I’m doing.

DEAR READERS OF ALL FOOKED UP:

As you know I spend a fair amount of time threatening to quit.  Mostly because I’m a moody bitch and I’m like a Weeble (remember them? Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down?)  At any rate, I’m not going to submit and harass people all the time.  I put my shit up on Facebook and I Tweet it out about 8 times a day (which by the way, you’re really not supposed to do but FUCK IT!).

If you LIKE this blog, and some of you wrote in and said you did, then please help promote it by Tweeting it out, Sharing it on Facebook, Liking the Facebook, or just plain old following me.

When I feel like quitting I look at the numbers and think “hmmm…people like this shit for some damn reason and then I don’t quit.”  See the correlation?

So there you are!  The main thing I learned at TypeA was that I COULD ask you guys to help.  OK?

Thanks,

Me aka Lynn MacDonald aka All Fooked Up

I am a faithful reader (probably because I too, am a selfish bitch who has trouble ditching the family) and wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. I never comment and I don’t tweet, but i hope that simply being a regular reader helps your numbers. i will make an honest effort to comment more but i warn you —I am a Univ of Kentucky alum with deep anger and hostility towards Duke. it all goes back to a championship game …… and a buzzer ….. and a damn Duke player making a shot …..

The first 2 years that you blog, you care about people’s blogs, kids, families and miserable opinions. That goes away when you realize you really don’t care about them that much. And that blogs only make money when you have 5,000 followers or more. And even then, are they making 30K a year? Doubtful.

You can comment, Facebook and tweet your ass off, it still doesn’t pay the bills. So if you’re tired of it now? GOOD LUCK CHUCK!!!

Suzy…I’m not trying to pay the bills. I’m just trying to see if anyone is reading on occasion? And if the people reading are reading cuz they like it?

I realize that it won’t be big…I’m ok with that. At the conference they said I could ask people to be more hands on….so I am.

      Thats pretty much it!

No need to apologize for who you are, we love you because of the way you are. So come on, get off the sofa and quit procrastonating. We’re all waiting. Just for you.

I already do that when I feel that you posted a particularly funny blog. Keep up the good work! Anything interesting that you learned at the conferences that could help me??? I have plenty of opinions but unless I find somebody to help me set up the frame work I guess I’ll spend all my time harassing my friends on FB!
