In which i’m at Dragon*Con

Today is Tuesday but when you read this post on Friday, I’ll be down in Atlanta, Georgia at Dragon Con.  Dragon Con? What the hell is Dragon Con … that’s what you’re saying right?

Well, it’s a convention for fantasy/Scifi people down in Georgia and I had told Keely before her surgery that if she were walking, I would take her down there to celebrate.  Now, she’s not able to walk long distances without a crutch YET but she’s getting there.

So, what do we do down there?  I don’t completely know as I’ve never been there before but there are Tracks for everything.  There are panels about TV shows (Vampire Diaries, Once Upon a Time, Lost and Battlestar Galactica) and panels about fantasy book series (Game of Thrones, The Wheel of Time, etc.) and we will definitely be attending some of those.

Beyond that, there are autograph sessions and picture sessions.  I signed up to get a couple of pictures for Keely and her friend Kathleen (no not me, I’m too old in my opinion.)  She’s having one taken with Jamie Bamber and James Callis as well as one with Ian Somerhalder.

I’m looking forward to meeting some of the people that I’ve talked to online and seeing some of the actors and actresses that I’ve seen on TV.  Most of all, I think it will be a fun opportunity for Keely and I (and Kathleen) to relax and enjoy ourselves after this stressful summer.

One of the things I’m looking forward to is seeing all the people who dress up. Now I’m not dressing up but I’ve never seen this type of thing in person before and I’m sure we will enjoy it.

What I really want to do is unwind and mark a new chapter of Keely’s life with some fun memories.  So stay tuned and expect some pictures.  I’m sure we will have plenty of fun stories and experiences to share.  If we don’t, I will consider myself a huge failure.

See ya!!!

If you get this, and if you have time, can I beg a huge favor? Felicia Day and Geek and Sundry are there. They produce a youtube show called Written by a Kid. My children are completely OBSESSED with the program. They want to be the kids telling the stories. The website has a little side playalong thing that invites children to be a part of the already produced stories. Mine have no interest in the side games. They want to know how to get on Written by a Kid for real. If they knew Felicia Day was three hours away from them right now, they would be dragging me off to stand in line, my exhaustion and prior commitments not withstanding. (Hell, if I had the money and hadn’t spent the last eight weeks in runrunrun mode, I’d be at Dragon-Con because I have never been and want to go.) My question, if you see Felicia Day, is how do my kids audition to tell stories on her kid show. I think because of their Asperger’s Syndrome, they won’t let go of the idea, and I’ve had no time to do any research whatsoever. (And I won’t be all mean if you can’t or just plain have your own life to live, but if you could, I’d be so grateful)

There was a huge line for her because of the Guild. You can only stand in the line if you’re going to pay for an autograph. I passed the line but she wasn’t even there yet. I would never run into her because they keep the celebs away from the masses however if I do run into her I will try.

Fantastic series with extraordinarily high production values. The show does a sterling job in introducing some of the very large cast and making emotional connections early on.
