This blog is not for the light-hearted or easily offended. If either one of those descriptions applies to you, i would suggest you start drinking before you read this blog. A sense of humor is suggested. If you don't have one that sucks for you … find one and get a life!

In which i’m awaiting your answer

So it’s 8:27 and normally by now I’d be at the gym ready to do my spinning class but instead, I just got off the couch (where I was sitting on my ass with my not quite dead yet dog, Tucker) and walked into my office to sit at my computer.  Obviously I’m typing up a post.

Why am I typing up a post?  In the last week I have had my first anniversary of blogging (here) and today I have a post up about how blogging is like high school (here).  In that post I mentioned that I originally had a goal for my blog, which was actually to make it one year, but that now I didn’t have a goal.

I have gotten a few comments on the part about whether blogging is like high school (it is) but I got one comment about my goals.  Here it is:

Dear Blogging Sophomore A.F.U,

Happy blogoversary or whatever we call it.

I am NOT sucking up here but I seriously DID enjoy this post, and I probably will retweet it.

I thought the beginning of this post was interesting where you mentioned you had goals for your blog and now you don’t. Just curious if you will set new ones. I’m totally interested because my goals are constantly re-prioritizing before I actually accomplish any of them so I’m hoping you’ll share. Again I’m TOTALLY not sucking up here, just curious, really.

And for the record I really did enjoy meeting you (I saw you a few times through out the conference) BUT again I’m NOT sucking up.

So happy blogoversary from a peon in the blogging circle of life.

Freshman blogger, Sara @ Periwinkle Papillon

See Sara (who’s NOT SUCKING UP) was wondering if I was going to have some new goals and I realized that I probably should.  After all, I’m a pretty goal oriented person and almost always achieve them.  The trick to this is NEVER setting any goals.  That way it’s easy to achieve the few ones you DO actually set.

At any rate, my original goal was to make it one year.  This was mostly done in spite to prove to my horrible children that it was a CHOICE to always be a slacker and that I could actually (and occasionally) achieve something.

Now I’ve made it the year and I did buy tickets to BlogHer in 2012.  What that means is that I should probably still be blogging in 2012 so how to achieve that?

SOME POSSIBLE GOALS ARE

Increase my readership

Submit to other places and sites

Become a professional talk show guest

Become 5’9”

Start sculpting again

Start painting again

Become a better mother

Become a worse mother

Stop mothering altogether

Try to keep my blog posts more on target and less rambling

Have a lobotomy

Try to remember that I should be a better wife

Do shit around my house

You see? I should make a goal to have more coherent lists.  So, during year one I went from 0 readers to about 300/day.  I would love to have 1000/day but I already do if it gets Stumbled so I don’t count that.  So what would I really like?  I have no idea so I’ve decided to ask YOU DEAR READERS!!!

WHAT SHOULD MY NEW GOAL BE?

Should I try to be funny?

Should I try to write more serious posts?

Should I try to get more readers?

Should I actually give a shit what my feedback says?

Should I rant more?

Should I post less?

Should I actually try?

WHAT DO YOU GUYS WANT?

This is no guarantee that I’ll do it … or listen … or care … but I’M CURIOUS.

Why do you read this blog? What do you like? The conversations? The rambling manner? The dialogue? The opinions? Or just the overall bullshit of a possibly psychotic human being?

AWAITING YOUR FEEDBACK!!!

Yours truly,

Lynn MacDonald aka All Fooked Up

i read this blog because of YOU. Don’t have anything fascinating to say today – ok – neither do I – some days are like that. But we all have rambling thoughts (I hope, or else I’m really weird) and they way they pour out of you are REAL! I gues what I’m trying to say is that you make me feel sane (hope that doesn’t offend you – you pride yourself on being bithchy – but deep down aren’t most of us!!!!!) You just have a way of expressing normal everyday actions in an abnormal way – which again, to be redundant, is REAL! Guess my only goal for you (coming from a “young” 64 year old) is to just continue to be yourself – works for me!

Awww…I love this comment! Thanks so much. I don’t pride myself on being bitchy. In lots of ways I don’t even think I’m a bitch…just think I’m a what you see is what you get gal!!!

You are exactly who I write for. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

When I first started reading this I just thought it was funny, now I keep reading because it is always different. You always have some new story or funny conversation to relay. I think your goal should be to keep giving the rest of us a window into your corner of the universe. I am a fellow Triad resident and reading your daily blog post is part of my morning routine! I check every weekday, knowing that you are very consistent about posting. Most of the other blogs I read are sporadic!

Just as an aside, I have mild bipolar as well (I am 23 so it is probably just beginning). I really appreciate the insights into the darkness that can come with this weird disorder. It’s also nice for me to read that it is ok to not be sparkly all the time. So please, just keep writing! You already seem to have found your “voice” so to speak and I know I will keep reading, if nothing else. :)

You know what! The comments today are actually meaningful and real. Thanks so much…and about being bipolar. I know my child (age 20) is too but she is just too stubborn to admit it so i try to talk her through it. It’s hard at 23 although it gets easier as you get older and accept yourself. Thanks for the lovely comment

Just make a point to write whatever you want whenever and make the ultimate goal is getting to your 2nd blogoversary. Sure you should try to expand your readership if you can.

i don’t know how to expand my readership without trying…which i really don’t feel like doing. I have discovered that i have some VERY loyal readers and that’s good enough.

I read this blog because occasionally you make me snort coffee through my nose. I find that with my life and family (husband, 3 teenage daughters, and a socially disabled dog) and all that that entails–the occasional coffee snorting helps me keep things in perspective. If I wanted serious, I’d watch the news (although that’s questionable). I think your ability to “be funny” isn’t something that you need to work at–you’ve got a handle on that. More readers? I don’t care. Give a shit? I still don’t care. Rant more? It’s your ranting and the way you unashamedly tell it like it is that makes me remember that I’m not the only person out here that has issues with poor customer service, smart assed kids, or a husband that lets me waste as much time as I’d like reading this stuff.

Do set a goal, don’t set a goal….I don’t care. But DO keep blogging. Do keep telling me your little anecdotes about your days. Do continue to make me snort coffee from my nose on occasion. I am not alone!! Yay me!!

thanks for the feedback…coffee up your nose sounds painful. I’m keeping going. Just like to bitch and moan occasionally…well, maybe more than occasionally

Once long ago, when we were very young (about 7 years old), Lynn snorted milk up her nose at the dinner table which I thought was pretty funny at the time. But I was banished to the bathroom along with my sister where we continued to crack up and tried to understand why the adults at the table weren’t amused. Looking back on it….I still crack up and make sure to never, ever, ever drink anything while I’m reading her blog!

Should I try to be funny?

    You already are. Moot point.

Should I try to write more serious posts?

Only if that’s what mood you’re in that day. Don’t plan ahead.

Should I try to get more readers?

Actively? Your call. You already gain reader passively — from referrals, mentions in other places (how I found you), things like that. If you really want to put forth the effort to actively get more readers, well, okay. Otherwise, why worry?

Should I actually give a shit what my feedback says?

Probably not, but you know you do. Can’t help it. We are all like that.

    Should I rant more?

Again, this is one of those “if the mood strikes” things. If the mood to rant strikes more, then yeah, rant more. Otherwise, keep on keeping on.

    Should I post less?

    See answer above. Mood thing.

    Should I actually try?

Try what? People have been urging me to try exercise and I haven’t because I just don’t want to. On the other hand, I like to try some things, like the cookies my dad baked or that awesome new moisturizer I splurged & bought. And I do actually try other things, like trying not to turn into a banshee when my idiot nephews eat everything in sight right after I just got home from a $200+ grocery shopping trip or when my daughter repeats the same question, only re-worded, for the zillionth time just to see if the answer will change. I try that only because I am tired of being a banshee, plus it doesn’t seem to work. You have to weigh the effort against the hoped for results. So I guess if you want to try determine whether the effort is actually going to be worth it and, if it is, go for it.

This was a great comment…I going to just keep riding my moods and saying whatever. I love my feedback today! My readers are the shit!

Glad you liked it. I meant every word. Like take the rant thing. Here lately I’ve been in full blown rant mood, but since there are 4 gens living in this house (age range 75 down to 18 mo) and things are touchy already, I haven’t blown steam. But it has to come out…somewhere…right? Right. To bad it came out the other night when I was logged into my online classroom for a new class I did not want to take but have to and have to right now, in spite of me seriously not having time do to the work (thanks, New Admission Jerk). The professor for this class (all online) writes in a very, VERY formal tone and manages to sound patronizing, bitchy, and inflexible all at the same time. Huh. Plus, she required written answers to 15 questions BEFORE we can even get into the class–questions to ensure we have read the school’s rules plus her interpretations of same (stricter). So, I answered. Each question. Thoroughly. In rant form, matching her snooty style. I’m no fresh out of high school pup here, lady, I’ve been around and I’m probably older than you–is what I was thinking while writing. It got her attention, for sure. I got a voice mail, explaining things in a very, very, very polite tone. It was a nice voice mail as things go. Hearing her voice and her phraseology just cemented my opinion, though, so this will be an interesting and probably rant filled class.

Okay, what’s my point? The rants, the urge to post, the humor, the seriousness all will have to be expressed when they occur. I say let it fly. Life is too short to keep crap bottled up inside. You’re having fun, you’re feeling better, and life keeps going on. So yeah. Keep riding your moods (could you possible even not do that?) and saying whatever. Personally, I love it.

“Try to keep my blog posts more on target and less rambling?”…….HELL NO!

“Should I try to write more serious posts?” Only if you need to get something off your chest and I will listen.

To me you are successful at what you do..you drew me in…someone sent me a link to you coz they thot you have a great site. And I have sent people to your site coz I told them that you were fucking funny and as real as we are.

YOU GET ME! You are sarcastic like me….you are in love/hate/love relationship with your kids lol…and you express yourself so clearly ! I have been wanting to do a blog but I am on social security and cant afford the shit like the setting up, trips etc. that comes along with it. So girl, you in a way write for me too. Keep on doing this …do it your way.. coz we LOVE YOU!

thanks for the comment, i really appreciate it. Both Blogger and WordPress have sites you can get for FREE so just set one up with a free template and you can start writing. All the other stuff, like the trips, etc. aren’t that important. I mean, i enjoy them but if you want to WRITE then there are free ways to do so.

If not, i’m happy to express what i express in honor of you. Have a great day!!! and thanks for spreading the word

  13. Okay first of all you struck gold with your name. Who isn’t going to read All Fooked Up? They just need to be EXPOSED to the name and they’ll show up. And yes you should guest post on other sites and allow other sites to guest post on yours. This is called cross-pollination. And if you’re ever interested in doing that you know where to find me (when I’m not getting neck lifts I am blogging)

Before I comment on your posts, I normally read through your other comments, today, however I’m not doing that. This comment is being posted whether it’s a repeat, boring as hell, completely intellectual or stupid as shit.

What do I THINK you should do? Personally I wouldn’t change a thing. Meaning, I like your blog, and that’s why I read it. There are very few “personal” blogs that I actually like. You seem to be totally AUTHENTIC and I like that. Plus you don’t have an agenda so I have no clue what I’m going to get from one day to the next. I really enjoy the funny stuff but I do like when you write serious posts, too. You are good at both, and that’s how I judge your authenticity.

You bring the real world into your blog, Lynn. It’s refreshing, funny, light, serious at times, but most of all, it’s HONEST. I like honest best of all.

    Lynn, I say don’t change.

There’s too much of the same out there.

People know they can come here and find what is nowhere else.

But, it’s what your goals are.

We learned that at bloggy boot camp and I think it’s one of the best pieces of advice: find YOUR goal first, and then prioritize what you need to get there.

Having sticks stuck all over the place will only result in actions taken all over the place.

    • Lynn
      August 24, 2011

hmmm…i have no goal now. I’ve decided to just keep doing it as long as i’m having fun and the whole thing doesn’t send me over the edge. Well, any MORE over the edge than i already am. hahahaha

I hate boot camp…well the physical kind. Not sure what Bloggy Boot Camp is but it sounds kinda hard. THink i’ll pass.
