This blog is not for the light-hearted or easily offended. If either one of those descriptions applies to you, i would suggest you start drinking before you read this blog. A sense of humor is suggested. If you don't have one that sucks for you … find one and get a life!
Hey people, so what’s going on with you guys this week? Obviously it’s been a terrible week here in the US what with the mass shooting and all but how have you been coping with it all?
I’ll tell you about me because this is my blog right?
So I think I’ll just give you my observations of the world.
Well, I’ll probably lose a bunch of readers but whatever I don’t even care. I’m just disgusted with the state of things in the United States but particularly the rhetoric.
Okay, first off, I’m Canadian and I haven’t traveled in the US for almost 20 years. And to tell you the honest to God truth, I really don’t want to. But I have tried to keep up with US politics and it is frightening to see the change. The climate of hate and distrust of everyone is scary. Unless we only see the worse on the news, the government has been pushing a agenda of fear. They want the general public to be afraid of everything so they can justify invading countries and arming police forces like the military. Spending money like “drunken sailors” on weapons of mass destruction. My apologies to sailors….;). And really guns are weapons of mass destruction. In Canada we had a long gun registry until the past few years and I hope the new government re-instates it. Just because our guns are registered doesn’t mean that the government are going to seize them. The police just had that information on a need to know biases if there was a domestic dispute. The US government has been using fear against the population since 9/11 and really if they didn’t treat everyone other than themselves like shit, they wouldn’t have the problems as much. And really, Donald Trump is an ass and if he gets elected, the people of the US get what they deserve. An idiot leading the idiots. I thought George W. was bad….lol. Sorry, I wrote a lot. Keep it coming.
I couldn’t have said this better
I don’t always get a chance to read your blog, but I’m glad I read today. Your points are right on. I’m a Canadian and it’s nice to finally hear an American share the views you did. All I’m hearing in the news is that everyone should carry a gun. That will definitely not solve a thing. Perhaps all the guns should be taken away, expect as you say for the police and military. Maybe that would be a start.
I think most Americans certainly want assault rifles gone
As a Canadian who hasn’t traveled in the US for at least 20 years, I like to say that US government is a very strange animal. They seem to thrive on scaring the hell out of the citizens. I am of the mind that the lobbyists for the NRA have way too much power and influence. Just because the Constitution says that you can own a gun, it doesn’t mean you have to. That was written a long time ago when you needed a gun to live. I like that someone is speaking out about this gun issue.
Agreed…the NRA has way too much power. I feel like Washington has been purchased
You haven’t said anything I don’t agree with and I am an American.
I wish more people would speak up
Well, I do wear my Bernie button and have Bernie stickers on my car. I don’t see many others who seem of like mind in the small town where I live, but I keep hoping. I just cannot comprehend believing that Trump is a viable presidential candidate!
Good for you Lynn. Proud of you and Mom would be as well.
Thanks
Thank you for putting it out there. Couldn’t agree with you more.
Thanks
Thank you for writing this. I totally agree with you and have been saying things like this for years.
I think so many people feel like this but we are drowned out by the crazies
Guess what? Here is a Republican who completely agrees with you.
Thanks Julie
Yes to everything here.
As an Australian I really have no right to comment on America’s internal affairs, but I can say that I like your way of thinking. Keep up the good fight.
And you’ve gained at least one new reader … :)
Thanks and welcome aboard
I agree with you too, Lynn. There is no good rationale for allowing untrained, unregistered citizens to own whatever type of firearms they want – and however MANY as they want. The only people who want a whole closet full of guns are the exact people who should not be allowed to have ANY.
I can understand that people who hunt don’t want to see stronger gun laws because their particular subculture leads them to believe that limiting access to certain types of weapons is the first step on a slippery slope to “the government will take away all our guns.” Nobody in the government, that I can remember, has ever introduced a measure to take away guns. Some anti-gun activists have made the suggestion, and there have been certain moves toward buy-backs (mostly local), but with the NRA owning such a big chunk of Congress obviously that won’t happen on a national scale.
That certain loudmouth gun nuts won’t even entertain the notion of licensing and regulating gun owners tells you that they really don’t care about public safety. If you have to be licensed and regularly tested to drive a car – another deadly weapon in the wrong hands – then you certainly should be licensed and regularly tested to own a firearm.
The Constitution and Bill of Rights are, as noted above, over 200 years old and were written in a time when a hunting rifle was not a luxury or a toy; it was a way to assure that your family ate something other than cornmeal and cabbage over the winter. A “well-regulated militia,” as specified in the 2nd Amendment, is exactly what we DON’T have anywhere now. The closest thing we have to a well-regulated militia is the National Guard. And interestingly, those volunteers *are* trained to handle their firearms and it doesn’t seem to faze them.
couldn’t agree more!!
