This blog is not for the light-hearted or easily offended. If either one of those descriptions applies to you, i would suggest you start drinking before you read this blog. A sense of humor is suggested. If you don't have one that sucks for you … find one and get a life!
Here’s the thing about painting. I don’t know about you but I’m not actually a trained painter. Sure I took a watercolor course and I think I even had some color theory but very frankly, I was never one to pay attention to details. I usually just put down a color, normally red or yellow for some reason, and then I just keep building until I think I’m done.
After Day 1, I liked what I had done but wasn’t sure about some things. Kevin loved it but felt that it wasn’t done and it needed some depth. I just knew it was “off” but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Day 2 I started adding more color and contrast. Now admittedly, these pictures on my cell phone, don’t really do it justice but I just keep going until I feel somewhat satisfied. Then I clean up and wait.
I’ve had some paintings partly finished for ages and I’m still not sure what to do with them. However, once I feel a painting is done then it’s done. This one I’m not sure about yet because it doesn’t seem as “smooth” as I like. I really don’t know how to describe the thing that’s off about it.
So that’s my style. What to you guys think?
I’m curious ~ acrylic on canvas? Oil? Watercolor? Size?
ok, it’s oil on canvas and it’s probably 4×5 feet or so
I think it looks like an orange sunset. I like its abstract nature. I have no idea what to add, but maybe getting a sense for what others feel when looking at it would help.
who knows…i rarely listen to others but occasionally i do
I have always wondered how an abstract artist knows when a work is done. I have no artistic abilities so I’m pretty sure anything I created would be done when if fell over from too much paint.
I have nothing substantial to offer, really. I like the Day 1 painting a little better because I like the red. I do like the bit you added on the Day 2 painting in the lower right corner.
i just usually feel that something is done but who knows
I prefer the Day 2 painting, it just looks brighter to me. Nice work!
thanks
I like this one a lot! L.A. beach chic modern.
I thought of what you could do with your collection. Donate it to a film school, or film set designer. And give it to them unlicensed, so that they can use it in movies without paying you a royalty. I remember my daughter did a short in her undergrad film studies, and couldn’t use certain art on the walls, as they did not have permission. Keely can check it out for you… She will thank me later! hahahaha!
hee! maybe i will…thanks
It’s beautiful…. but I thought it was a nipple..
hahahaha…well played
