In which i’m sucking up to my in-laws

Apple Logo

Well, I just bought my in-laws, who are approximately 84 years old, an iPad.  Ironically, this means that EVERYONE in my family now has a nicer iPad then me, which I find somewhat irritating.  That’s because I got the first iPad when it came out and every time I think about upgrading I also feel kind of guilty because I’m already so spoiled.

Nonetheless, I bought them an iPad because my father-in-law has macular degeneration and has a difficult time reading.  Reading on a backlit iPad with enlarged fonts will hopefully enable him to enjoy books and whatnot again.  It’s been quite frustrating for him.

When I just called them in Vermont with the news, my mother-in-law said that now she can finally read All Fooked Up, which is a gigantic UH-OH to me.  It’s not like I talk shit about them in my blog, I mean I hardly ever do, but now they will know exactly what I’m up to and what a crappy wife I am to their son!

Not to mention the way I talk shit about my kids, which I suppose they’re completely used to.  I shall endeavor to set up the iPad before I arrive in Vermont with programs that I think they’ll enjoy.  I know they want some of their magazine subscriptions online and a few newspapers but I can’t even imagine teaching my mother-in-law how to Google but this is the price you pay for being so awesome (which I am of course.)

What is annoying is that my iPad is constantly wigging out because it wasn’t made to handle all these newfangled apps so I’ll be in the middle of something and BOOM, the iPad goes back to the home screen.  This is especially annoying when I’m in the middle of the various and sundry games I enjoy playing.  As you also know, because I bitch about it all the time, it’s also difficult to write new blog posts on the iPad so that when I’m traveling I’m constantly yelling at my iPad.

So, this was a successful morning because I made them happy and when I make my in-laws happy (a rare occurrence) then I’m basically making Kevin happy.  They have 3 daughter-in-laws and I’m ranked 3 out of 3 because I suck so badly but this should possibly move me up the ranks.  At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.

Hope you guys are all well.  See ya!

Lol nice of you to get them the iPads.

It’s funny and cute, you know, watching elders use technology.

My 65 year old aunt and I were out once and she wanted to tell my mom where we were but she didn’t actually know where we were lol. So anyway, I told her to drop a pin on her iPad. It was probably my mistake. We configured her iPad for her and set her up on fb, etc, but maybe it was too fast.

So anyway, I told her to drop a pin. She gave me this wtf look and was like, why would I do that? I didn’t realize her line of questioning so I said, well you want Mom to know where we are right? Just drop a pin.

She said…but I don’t have any pins! And how is your mom supposed to find a pin in the street anyway.

I looked at her all dumbfounded until it hit me. Then I was like OH!

I turned around and had to keep myself from laughing else she would smack me lol

I am not planning on letting them do anything so in depth. Just some web surfing and magazines and books and email.

Our iPad does the same thing! Just craps out in the middle of something. I have tried to fix it, but no. Screw it, I am just getting a kindle fire instead.

is it older? i think it’s because the new apps use too much brain power for the old iPads

    Hey Lynn

I love your site. I look forward to reading more. I think i will be adding you to my blogroll. Let me know if that is a problem. I loved your honesty in your reasoning behind regretting the purchase of an ipad.
