In which it was the wrong car

One of the problems with buying a car that everybody and their mother owns is that often, you walk up to a car that’s not yours.  That happened this morning.

As you may know, I traded in my car of over 10 years for a smaller Lexus.  Once again I got white but there are so incredibly many small white Lexus’s on the road that it’s not even funny.

This morning, after Pilates, I walked up to a small white Lexus and pressed the unlock button.  Then I tried the door.  It didn’t open.  I pressed the button again and once again it didn’t open.  Now I WAS looking at my emails on my phone and not paying that much attention but I did glance in the car and it looked like my car (or so I thought) and once again I tried to get in.  No joy.

I was getting disgusted so I looked down at my keys to make sure that I was indeed pressing the correct button and I was.  I then looked into the car and ya know what? It wasn’t my car.  Sure it had all the accouterments of my car but it wasn’t actually my car.  Where was my car? Two spaces down.

I looked around and noticed someone watching me as I was trying to “break” into the wrong car.  I informed them that I was actually just attempting to get into the wrong car and that was my car a couple of spaces over.

Now I love my new car but seriously, why does everyone have to have the same one? I can see that this will become a regular thing because I was in a parking lot with only about 20 cars and I was already at the wrong one.  I can’t even imagine what’s going to happen when I’m at a mall or something.

You would think that having a bumper sticker that’s so, so IN YOUR FACE would help but who pays attention to that crap when they’re approaching their car? I guess I’m going to have to start paying attention though.

Speaking of bumper stickers, yesterday I was at a stoplight and I was looking in my rear view mirror when I saw the guy behind me pull out a camera and take a picture of my car.  I’m sure it was for the bumper sticker but I still laughed.  I always forget it’s on the car until people react to it.  After all, I’ve had the same sticker (well, different copies of the same one) on my car for over 15 years now.

I enjoy having it even though it pisses many people off.  Whelp … that’s all I have to say about my car.  Right now it’s in the garage and I’m pretty sure it’s the only one of its kind so hopefully when I leave later I’ll get into the correct one.

See ya!

I used to keep an old hat in my car’s back window, so that it would look a little bit less like twenty million other green Camrys. Eventually the paint got wrecked enough that the hat was no longer necessary.
