This blog is not for the light-hearted or easily offended. If either one of those descriptions applies to you, i would suggest you start drinking before you read this blog. A sense of humor is suggested. If you don't have one that sucks for you … find one and get a life!
You know how they say there are six degrees of separation between people? Well, I don’t actually know who “they” are but I was just in Mexico and experienced it twice.
As you know, I actually live NO WHERE near Mexico and in fact, this is the first time that Kevin and I have actually gone so far out of the way for vacation. Actually, Kevin and I haven’t taken a vacation in a hell of a long time anyways but certainly we haven’t gone as far as Baja California.
Now, when you live in a state like North Carolina, which is actually the 10th most populous state but people don’t know that, people always ask where you live. It’s funny how many times people ask “where in North Carolina do you live?” but you can tell they have no IDEA about anywhere in North Carolina so why do they even bother to ask.
This time, however, was different. It was the first day of our vacation and Kevin and I went to workout. After I did my cardio I went into a little room to stretch. There was a woman there and I can’t remember HOW we started talking but we did. I TALK TO EVERYBODY PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW!!!
So of course, she said she was from Montana and I said I was from North Carolina. She then asked where in North Carolina I was from. I said Greensboro expecting to hear “oh, I don’t know where that is” which is the typical response. Instead, she said “oh I know people in Greensboro.” I asked who and I didn’t know the first couple but when she said the second couple I said “are you serious? They live three houses down from me!”
It turns out that the man from Montana was my neighbor’s big brother. She knew the kids, who are my kids age and went to the same school and it was such a “it’s a small world after all” type story that I was shocked. This couple, Allison and Doug were awesome and Allison and I became pretty good friends. I’m totally planning on keeping in touch with her.
A few days later we were in the bar and I started talking to this gentleman named Bill. Once again, we went through the ritual “where are you from crap?” and he said, “Oh, I did business with a man from Greensboro. His name is John Doe” to which I almost died because there is NO SINGLE PERSON ON EARTH I HATE MORE THAN JOHN DOE (Name changed so I don’t get sued … or murdered… I wouldn’t put it past the son of a bitch).
Kevin looked shocked and quickly interrupted me to say, “Oh, we know him well” because he just KNEW I wouldn’t keep my mouth shut. The guy starts to talk about a business deal he was supposed to do with John Doe when I said, “I hate that guy with a passion that is not to be outdone.”
After an awkward silence with Kevin just starring at me and the other guy saying, “well, the deal didn’t work out” Kevin managed to move the conversation along.
I interrupted again “that jerk’s ex wife is one of my very best friends and I hope he burns in hell” to which we once again had an awkward silence. Finally, Bill said “wow Lynn, you really say what you think don’t you?” and then things got ok again.
I must tell you that our ties to the guy I hate are pretty major so it was shocking meeting somebody who knew him in Cabos san Lucas, Mexico and this on top of the other thing was strange.
So, I guess there is something to this “six degrees of separation” thing. Either that or it’s a small world after all. Hey, that’s a catchy little tune! Somebody should probably use that.
As a mother, I always guide my son in dealing the reality of life, the world will not always be a small world for him that’s why I developed him to flow with how life goes by…

hmmm…maybe i took the wrong pill
So maybe i should be planning on being buried there or having my ashes scattered – since its imperative that i have some connection.
But then i have you there – and that is good enough for me ;)

Oh hey! My husband once interviewed for a job in a college in Greensboro.
I don’t think that qualifies for a very small world
Qualifier — YOUR story is majorly “smallworld”.
But mine isn’t.
well, it was odd
This is weird…but this is the reality we live in the small world…we are all connected to each other.

i suppose but it was unusual for sure
I love when stuff like that happens. Well, not when I have to proclaim my extreme hatred for someone…twice. But, you know, the other coincidental stuff.
i could proclaim my hatred for him 24/7 i think
It’s a small world after all indeed. Sometimes you will get shock when you see somebody close to you having an affair to someone you knew through acquaintance. Just like last week, my bestfriend told me that our schoolmate (never heard his name during high school) was married to a high class, sociable lady in our place. I was really shocked? I asked my friend how did it happened? Even in my dreams, I haven’t seen the two getting along together.

I agree. It’s a small world that when you go to one place or another, there will always be a connection. Weird but dynamic! I’m happy to have it small, Because if it’s not.. you might not have your spouse right now. Everything happens for a reason. :)
