Today I was in Pilates and it was just two of us, Sue and I, and our instructor Shanley. Now what happens in these classes is that Shanley says do something and then Sue and I do it. Well, that’s what is SUPPOSED to happen at least.
But on some days, especially Mondays (which it is today) it seems harder to get my body to do what I’m told. SO today, Shanley was repeating things constantly. Here’s the conversation we had:
Shanley: I’m sorry I keep have to repeating things.
Us: It’s fine
Shanley: I guess I have to say stuff three times because I talk so fast
Me: That’s not why
Shanley: then why?
Me: well, at least for me the first time you say something I hear it …
Shanley: … and
Me: … and it’s just words but the second time my mind is like “oh yeah, right arm to left leg …
Shanley: … and?
Me: and then the third time my body can just do it
Shanley: so it’s not me?
Me: let me explain it to you
Shanley: ok?
Me: you know how when you learn to type?
Shanley: yep
Me: and they teach you “a s d f” with your left hand and “j k l ;” with your right hand?
Shanley: … well
Me: and then you do all these drills “a s a s a s j k j k j k”
Shanley: yeah
Me: … and then eventually you get so good that you just hear words and your fingers know where to type and you don’t think “where’s the j?” anymore?
Shanley: yeah
Me: well, it’s not like that in Pilates for me
Shanley: that’s your explanation Lynn?
Me: what?
Shanley: you went through this long explanation and then said, “it’s not like that”
Me: yeah, Pilates doesn’t come natural like typing for me so I have to think
Shanley: can we get back to our class now?
Me: yeah, ok. Anytime you need an explanation I’m available.
This is the upside of having me around. I can’t honestly think of a downside!
Lynn, I think you were stalling for time . . . not a bad tactic . . . the story and all . . . a good way to catch your breath!

I love my pilates instructor. She’s an awesome lady. But oh dear GOD she rides us hard. My body doesn’t ever fully comply with some of her maneuvers.
Yeah, I can’t do some of the stuff either
But that explanation was perfectly logical.
I know right????
Look for it, look for it …. the “J (as in Julie!). It’s by the “H” as in hot, a word not often associated with Julie.

I agree with Kat – the explanation offered logic, yet backstory. It’s like drawing a negative space picture! When you define everything it’s NOT, what remains is clear as day! :) Silly Shanley. No sense of adventure!
