In which i’ve forgotten how to grocery shop

3d human figure with empty shopping cart

Oh my god! I just spent sooooo much money at the grocery store and that didn’t even include the brisket and the turkey I need to pick up tomorrow.  I had totally forgotten what it’s like to do a huge trip at the grocery store.

It’s been so long (4 months) since all 5 of us were in the same house that I couldn’t even remember how much food you need for all those people and that’s BEFORE all the friends and relatives start dropping by.

It’s funny that every single week I used to do a humongous trip like that.  Now I almost never need to go to the grocery store since I’m only shopping for two.  I pick that up in little batches so its weird being back in the large trip game.

It makes you really wonder where the times gone if shopping things like a thing of the past.  On the other hand, I really appreciate Thanksgiving this year because Keely is so far away and Andie has been so busy with Med School that we haven’t really seen her much.  I think it’s the first time that I really feel like my kids were actually gone.

Over the years, even though they’ve been away at school Kevin and I have seen them quite a bit.  Not all of them but we would see each of them individually and that way, it never felt like being an empty nester.  Also last year, Keely was still at home recuperating from her Pulmonary Embolism so someone was always around.

Now they’re really, really gone so I guess I really didn’t think about it much until I just spent over $200 at the grocery store for basically NO GROCERIES.  It’s like going back in time.

And the thing is that I don’t really even like them all that much!  Hahaha … I’m kidding.  Of course I do it’s just so strange.

So Keely will be arriving tomorrow and Daniel will be getting here today.  I will probably appreciate the full house until I start tripping over shoes and other assorted shit and then I’ll be all like “when the hell are you kids leaving?” Hopefully that won’t happen until Sunday when they all do ACTUALLY leave but ya never know right?

Hope all is well with you.

Think of grocery shopping as therapy… The more you buy, the better you feel.

I am always stunned when the cashier totals everything up ~ the amount is often staggering. When did food get so damn expensive??
