In which my computer was on the fritz

Apple Logo

Guys, I bet you wondered if I had quit blogging. Well not exactly. You see, first my computer went on the fritz.

And by that I mean that for some reason, EVERY SINGLE PICTURE that I have in storage on my computer opened on my desktop. Turns out that I have a shitload of pictures and therefore, my computer practically died.

Not only that but it kept opening up Safari and opening pages there so I couldn’t do anything.

Finally after a few days of trying to fix it myself I went into the “geniuses” at Apple. So I had an appointment last Thursday. I went in and schlepped my computer and the guy starting running diagnostics tests.

And then he ran more …

… and more …

… and more …

and finally couldn’t figure out why he couldn’t fix it so he decided to just wipe the computer.

Which was fine EXCEPT I didn’t have my backup with me.

I had been there 1 ½ hours and he gave me the computer with instructions to go home and restore from my backup and if it didn’t work then I’d have to come back in and they’d restore from the backup.

So I did it. I went home and started to restore from backup and left it running because you know, I have a ton of stuff on my computer.
I left it running and it got stuck with 8 minutes left to go.

It stayed on 8 minutes over night.

In the morning I tried it again and went to work out but NOT before I made another Apple Genius appointment.

I came home and it was stuck AGAIN on 8 minutes remaining.

At 3:45 I went into Apple and explained that I had been there the day before for 1-½ hours and that the restore from backup didn’t work.

So the guy wiped the machine AGAIN and started a different restore and it started …

And restored …

And restored …

And restored …

Finally, it got past 8 minutes and got stuck at 7 minutes. I’d been there for hours already and I was considering killing myself. The guy, however, seemed nonplussed and figured out a way to get the damn thing working.

So then, after 3 hours my computer was working EXCEPT nothing had been restored. He showed me how to get all my music and pictures and documents back on and this would take HOURS more to do.

So that’s what I spent my weekend doing. Restoring my computer.

Only now, today, MONDAY is it finally working and it’s still not 100% back to normal but I can at least use it again.

So THAT’S WHY I haven’t written a post.

I wouldn’t be able to do that. That is what I pay my computer guy for. At times, I hate my computer. I have to send my laptop away because the fan is going, so I’m trying to put that off for a while.
