This blog is not for the light-hearted or easily offended. If either one of those descriptions applies to you, i would suggest you start drinking before you read this blog. A sense of humor is suggested. If you don't have one that sucks for you … find one and get a life!

In which my content sucks

It’s January 11th and is, in fact, the first day in a month where I’ve walked into the house and there is NOBODY home.  That’s right, the girls went back to school.  Of course, when Andie asked me if I would miss her I told her “yes” but it was a qualified yes.

Mostly, I enjoyed having everyone home but never having a single moment of solitude drove me crazy.  Andie asked how I had survived when they all lived here and I told her that they went to school, had extracurricular activities and then they had homework so even though they “lived” here they were quite busy so I could pretty much do what I want.

At the very minimum, I had from 8:00 to 3:00 all day to be by myself.  At any rate, I’m all alone and I’m in my office and I was checking out my blog and I realized that I have virtually written NOTHING lately.  I know most of the bloggers out there have kids and stuff around the house but I don’t think I could have been a blogger when my kids were younger.  I really need to be alone to write.

It’s not like I don’t think of things to say.  I mean, I do constantly and usually at incredibly inconvenient times.  Like 2:00 in the morning or on the spin bike or when I’m driving around.  Of course, by the time I get to my computer I’ve already forgotten them.   I also can’t imagine those women who just get up and write up whatever they’re posting that day.

I can’t stand pressure and basically do whatever I can do avoid it and if that means being 2 weeks ahead on the blog then I’m  going to be 2 weeks ahead on the blog.  If someone said you have to have a post ready in an hour I’d probably freak.  I hate deadlines!

So here I sit and I’m trying to remember all the things I wanted to blog about. I could write about some serious shit.  I have wanted to write a post about teenage drinking and my opinion on it and trust me, I have a LOT of opinions on teenage drinking.  I also wanted to discuss how relationships change.  On top of that, I had some funny things I wanted to say.

Unfortunately, I’m completely incapable of writing anything of substance right now so all of those things are out.  Perhaps I’ll just tell you one quick story.

Until I got my iPhone, I basically forgot to go to EVERY appointment I have ever had. I would write them down and then forget to look at a calendar or wake up and assume I had nothing to do that day.  I am much better now but apparently I still suck at keeping appointments.

CASE IN POINT:

Last week I was driving around and I received the following text:

Isn’t this perfect?  I forgot to go get my haircut and since my hairdresser knows I have a blog she sent me that text.  Of course, she’s so used to me forgetting my appointment that we’ve rescheduled it for today.

Well, I know that this sucks but honestly, just stop reading this blog if you don’t like it.  They say you should only “publish” when you have quality stuff to say but I haven’t had a quality thing to say since I was born.  Instead, you just get my daily drabble of questionable content.

I’m just saying …

Sometimes I like the off the cuff posts the most, where people “have nothing to say.” It’s kind of a window in to their mind. My blog is that pretty much every day.

It’s your blog ~ say whatever the hell you want.
My daughter is currently attending the local community college while our house sits on the market. (She is there because our future is so uncertain.) I told her the other day, “There is a reason kids go AWAY to school.” I totally understand your need for some solitude.

If I only published when I had quality stuff to say, my blog would be an empty page. So screw that.

  6. Lynn, I’ve had the EXACT same issue…They really do come thru at the most inconvenient times!! I think of blog posts during: driving, walking my dog, in the shower, exercising, and at 2am. Sometimes I even bolt upright in bed with an entire post that seems to be channeled from some other source. And since my posts tend to be sick & twisted (at least I find them really funny) I then sit in my bed room alone and laugh out loud hysterically. I’ve scared my dog.

For example, this week alone I came up w/ a post about how dogs are better than kids (sorry breeders!) while out walking my dog in the park and got an entire sketch for my bizarre cooking show (again, laughing out loud in the park by myself.)

I think it’s b/c I’m in some sort of zone and it allows for things to just gurgle up to the surface. In the beginning I’d get pissed cuz I’d loose stuff and it’d never return. Here’s my system to tackle this problem and so far it’s worked out really well.

I went to staples and bought a ton of small staples brand note books (3X5) and a ton of small pens (4 inches.) They hook on perfectly to the notebooks. Both items were fairly cheap. I stash them EVERYWHERE!!! I have one in each pocket book and one in each jacket and one in my car. i wait ’til red lights or will pull over when something comes to me in my car to jot stuff down. I even have waterproof paper that boats use for in the shower http://www.myaquanotes.com/. I have a .99 cent notebooks on my nightstand and stock up when they are on sale. Hope these ideas help!!!!

    I really enjoy your blog!!
