In which my day goes South

Uggghhhh….how can it be 10:21 and already be one of those days?  It would seem impossible but when things go south, they really seem to go south.  Before I went to BlissDom, I made arrangements with Sippycupmom to do a guest post on her blog on Monday, January 31st.  I always enjoy these guest posts because I meet new bloggers, get exposed to new people and I’m always happy to espouse my philosophy.  So, as you can imagine I was pretty psyched.

I’m also a person who is compulsively on time or even early so I usually have the posts set up to go around 5:00 AM and I’m usually about a week ahead.  That way there is never any pressure to write when I don’t want to.  However, Sippycupmom is in Central Time and she had planned to post around 10:00 EST.  I was all set up and good to go when she informed me that her blog was going haywire…and that she could neither see it nor fix it.

Not to worry I informed her.  We would just wait it out and see if the damn thing posted or not.  If it posted, then I would set up my link to her blog and if not, no problem, I have tons of posts at the ready just waiting for their day in the sunshine!  Of course, she was really freaking out but honestly, I’m too old to freak out about this sort of stuff.  The blog DID NOT post at 10:00 like it was supposed to so I simply moved Wednesday’s blog to today.  PROBLEM SOLVED.  At least for me…Sippycupmom seems to have some sort of clusterfuck on her hands.  Don’t you love that word?  Clusterfuck?  It so describes the situation!

At any rate, now I’m here at my desk realizing that my paperwork pile didn’t grow any smaller while I was gone and indeed, due to tax season approaching, seems to have actually grown.  It’s at well over 4” which is at least an inch past due.  So I’m supposed to be doing paperwork right now but instead, I’m typing away at my computer.  I know I have said before how much I hate paperwork and in fact, I was immensely proud that I actually dealt with my medical shit a few weeks ago.  And yet, here I am again.  Stuck doing the same old, same old.  And when you start throwing in taxes, forget about it!  When I was younger, I was really good about organizing my taxes before I gave them to the accountant.  I’ve really gotten much lazier though (as if that was even possible) and now I just sort my tax information into five piles, one per person.  Then I just drop them off and have the accountant deal with it.  I know it’s terrible but all that detail just makes my head want to explode so I’m at the point of my life where I avoid that crap.

So far I’ve divided the piles into taxes, bills and other stuff that I actually have to think about.  My normal plan of action is to pay the bills online and then decide that I can still put off the stuff I don’t want to think about.  I’m pretty sure I just saw a questionnaire asking me how my child enjoyed pre-school.  She’s in college now so … yeah, I’m pretty good at avoiding shit.

Oh god!  Here’s one asking me if I’ve been doing the stuff for my college 30th Reunion.  Shit!  I completely forgot I was on the committee!  So far, I’ve only made two contributions.  I was adamant that we would need alcohol at the party and I protested the idea of a harpist or piano player and volunteered to make a 4 hour iPod mix.  You can see that I’m a necessity to the committee.  Have I called my friends to ask them to go to the reunion?  NO!  Have I been calling to ask for donations to the alumni fund?  NO!  Have I missed the last TWO conference calls?  YES!  I’m about as successful on this committee as I was at actually succeeding in school.  In other words … not at all!

Ok, I now realize that there is a hell of a lot of things I should be doing.  So today (now don’t hold me to this), I’m going to accomplish something.  Now, where’s that preschool questionnaire?

I was off for 3 days due to “inclement weather” and my inbox looks much the same as it did last week. I just hate hate hate dealing with it. I make grand promises to myself that I won’t even put things in the inbox, that I’ll deal with them immediately. Bah! That doesn’t work because I just rationalize that there’s no need for an “inbox” if I never put anything IN it.

You’re not procrastinating. You simply have too much awesome to waste on paperwork. ;-)

I have a similar pile of paperwork… I keep waiting for it to just disappear but it doesn’t.

Did you get that preschool questionnaire done?

      Yep, I don’t mind sorting…but then I usually stop…that’s the problem.

So, you start with the preschool questionnaire? Poor girl….I’d hate to see what’s behind it in importance! Good luck, at any rate…

I am sure the preschool (if it hasn’t gone out of business by now) will totally appreciate your feedback! I found a survey from the NICU at the hospital asking how my daughter has been doing as they were following her for years doing some longitudinal study. I was so good at filling that thing out year after year. I guess I slipped at one point because the 5 year survey is blank and my daughter is 17. You have inspired me to at least consider filling it out! =)

i wouldn’t worry about it at this point…i’m always so far behind
