This blog is not for the light-hearted or easily offended. If either one of those descriptions applies to you, i would suggest you start drinking before you read this blog. A sense of humor is suggested. If you don't have one that sucks for you … find one and get a life!
So you probably noticed that last week there was this big huzzah over FeedBurner. What? You didn’t notice? Well it happened. All of a sudden peoples feed numbers went down to zero and everybody including me panicked.
Then people started saying that Google wasn’t going to stick with FeedBurner and that we should switch from FeedBurner. I was already not thrilled with them so I decided that yes indeed, I would switch from FeedBurner to FeedBlitz.
Are some of you saying “what the hell is a feed?” Well, if you get this blog via email or RSS feed or even read it on Networked Blogs or Greensboro101 you are getting a feed of the post. In other words, you don’t have to go to All Fooked Up to read it; you can read it on your own computer at your own time.
Of course, this affects my numbers but since I don’t advertise it doesn’t matter that much. As long as there is a number to watch I’m usually pretty happy. As you know, I love numbers.
At any rate, considering that I used to be a computer programmer I figured that I could probably make the switch myself. Also, FeedBlitz provides a huge step-by-step document to transfer the feed over from FeedBurner to FeedBlitz. Simple right?
Well, not so fast. One of the major problems of being me is that I have a particular lack of attention to detail. I also have problems with instructions; I have a hard time following them. I also have a tendency to read so quickly (otherwise known as skimming) that I end up doing step 4 before step 2 and normally I can fix it up but sometimes, things go to hell.
That’s basically what occurred here. On Sunday I thought, hey I can do this myself. It doesn’t look very difficult. Normally I have other people do things that involve attention to detail but with those instructions how could I possibly screw up right?
Well I did … screw up that is. I think I somehow got everyone switched over but I never sent out an email first explaining what I was doing. Instead, I shut down the old feed before even checking the new feed so it’s conceivable I lost a ton of subscribers. Not only that but I somehow ended up having duplicate feeds because I noticed a step I had missed long after the transfer.
I then did that step and voila, I had multiples of everything. So I deleted the multiples and I’m not entirely sure that I deleted the correct ones. I explained to Kevin that I had screwed up my entire blog to which he replied, “So what else is new?” which I think indicates a complete and total lack of faith in me. Either that or he knows me pretty well.
So, in the meantime, I know that I am getting the new feed but now that I’ve deleted the old feed I have no idea if the other people are. I can’t even ask who isn’t getting the feed because guess what? They won’t get this post.
It will be the third time I’ve started from scratch with this whole subscriber thing and I still don’t know what I’m doing.
The funny thing is that I’m actually a pretty smart persona and if I’d just sit down and read through all the stuff or watch the tutorial (I hate tutorials) I know I could figure it out but I just can’t bring myself to do that.
So, if you’re getting a feed and you’re actually reading this than HURRAH (also, let me know because that would be a relief) and if you’re not getting this feed and you’re supposed to and you still managed to read this post let me know (just email me) and if none of this pertains to you and you’re all like “man, this woman is an ass” then you’re probably my type of individual so stick around.
Better yet, subscribe! Well, or at least try to. Who knows if it’ll work?
Just saying …
