In which she got her white coat

I’m so far behind on writing posts that I’m not even writing this as a document first. I’m actually typing it right into WordPress.  That may be Standard Operating Procedure for you guys but it’s not for me.  You see, things have been a bit busy.

On Friday Kevin, Daniel and I went down to Duke for Andie’s “White Coat Ceremony” where they give the Med Students their white coats symbolizing getting their start on the road towards being a doctor.  The next big ceremony is in 4 years when they take the Hippocratic Oath.

To be honest, it was a bit hot in there and I thought it was funny to text Andie during the ceremony that I was bored (since that’s what she had been texting me the entire week during orientation) but it seems Andie was NOT amused and therefore I was in the doghouse for the rest of the night.  It didn’t help that Daniel blabbed and told her that I had been playing “Candy Crush” during one of the speeches (hey, they were really long) and then she was truly pissed.

In my defense, I DO listen better when my hands are busy but for some reason, that didn’t mollify Andie.

Nonetheless, the new Med School is awesome and we’re really proud of Andie and am hoping that she will absolutely love Med school.

Just wanted to let you know that there is NO ceremony that is too good for Candy Crush … or Andie I suppose.

I can only imagine how proud you are of her, Candy Crush or not. Did you tell her that the bit you were waiting for was the moment she actually got her coat or did they not pass them out like diplomas?

Beautiful B is a nurse and I was so proud when she first bought her uniform home. Being 4 foot nothing she had the trousers altered and the person altering them clearly thought the measurements were wrong and made them longer – she needed another 5 inches taken off. Despite being proud I still made a comment that was something like “Don’t forget to lower all the beds to their lowest setting so you can reach the patients….” – not quite a text saying I was bored but…..
