In which the bracket wasn’t right

Ok, this was written last Thursday … I blame all the disorganization on my trip to Los Angeles.  Well, or on my dead mother.  It was her fault.

I’m on the plane at the Greensboro airport and I’m getting ready to fly to Dallas and I’m so stressed out.  Why am I so stressed out? Is it because I’m afraid to fly? No. Is it because I almost missed my flight? No. Does it have anything to do with my trip? No.

The reason why I’m so stressed out is because it’s 11:15 am on Thursday and I’m having trouble getting my stupid NCAA basketball pool submitted.

I know what you’re thinking.  So what right? Except I’ve won the pool before and I’ve told you that it gives you bragging rights in my family.  Here’s what happened:

In years past, our company has always had a pool on CBS sports. They hosted the brackets and we all participated in it. So I created my pool yesterday and submitted it and printed it out and I was all good to go EXCEPT whilst I was in the airport Kevin told me that this year our pool was on Yahoo Sports.

Yahoo sports? I haven’t ever even heard of yahoo sports.  Time was running short and I was entered on the wrong website.  Kevin pointed out that I simply had to make a yahoo account and quickly enter my picks.   The problem was twofold however.  First, I already do have a yahoo account as its my homepage on my computer AT HOME but I had no idea what my account and password was.

But the bigger problem was my iPad.  You see, I have an old iPad and it seems to crash at the most inconvenient moments and there was no more inconvenient a moment than this one was there?

Kevin, of course, was simply creating a new account but between my bad cell signal and my crashing iPad that wasn’t really an option.

After a few tries I finally figured out my account and voila I was in yahoo sports.  The bracket came up and I started putting in my teams.  I got through the first round and I thought “I should save this bracket” and I hit save and it churned and churned and you guessed it, it crashed.  Back to the home page.

Kevin meanwhile, was racing to put in his bracket while we spoke on the phone and I bitched and moaned about never receiving the email and why we had to change etc. etc. etc.

I got back into the bracket and it had actually saved my first round picks so I was psyched.  I started putting in my second round picks and it wouldn’t take them.  I refreshed my page and still, no joy.  It literally would not let me choose past the first round.

By now, they were getting ready to board the plane and Kevin decided to just create a second bracket within his account for me.  So here I am, sitting in the airport, picking my brackets while Kevin reads the choices to me. Talk about pressure!!

My iPad is useless but Kevin finally gets my bracket in and they’re already boarding.  I had been charging my phone so I grabbed the charger and my stuff and ran to the bathroom.  On the way back to the plane I decided to sit down and organize my shit first and a man hands me the electoral part of my charger which I would have been totally fucked without. Thank you complete stranger who saved the day!

By the time I got on the plane I was totally stressed and my trip hadn’t even begun.  And can I just tell you about my banana? I brought a banana from home and it wasn’t ripe which is just the way I like it.  But somewhere along the 10 minute drive, the checkin, security and the basketball pool it got brown and yucky.  How can that happen so rapidly. What’s up with those bananas? I don’t even know!

Now I’m on the plane and I ate my mushy banana and I’m still hungry and I probably won’t win my tournament now.  Oh well, bet you’re glad you read this post aren’t you??

  1. You always make me laugh but more so as I can so relate to this! Both the selections and the bananas.

Hubby watches a lot of horseracing with my brother and us girlies have started joining them for the most important afternoon (more for the alcohol than the horses). My brother backed a horse, which he thought was at the back of the pack only to be told 15 seconds before the jockey fell off that his horse was at the front. 15 seconds of excitement, the horse still came first but without the jockey he kissed his £440 winnings goodbye. He should think himself lucky, one person put £10,000 on it and narrowly missed out on £400,000!

As for bananas – no idea; what does annoy me is the banana cases you can buy for them in the UK – they would still go brown if the case was knocked about so it seems pointless to me. But then so do sensor handwash dispensers – why does it matter if there is bacteria on the squirty handle – you are going to wash your hands after you have pressed it!

hahaha…that’s a good point. I hate those stupid hand sanitizer things. and as always, thanks for reading. BTW, my pool isn’t doing very well

So stressful! I use CBSsports for the one at my job – it’s basically the best, methinks. Doesn’t matter too much though, because my bracket suuuucks already.

Mere words can not express the bitter disappointment I feel for my beloved Wildcats.
