In which there’s bullshit to do

You know what I hate? I HATE when you wake up and it’s REALLY early and your mind is racing.  That happened this morning.  I woke up around 5:00 and my mind was going crazy and I literally could have written about 100 posts but of course, I didn’t get out of bed and by the time I did wake up I was too damn tired to even think.

Even when I do get out of bed, I get to my computer and I’m too tired to actually type so its soooo stupid that my mind is racing but my body is too tired to keep up.  Does that happen to you? Because it happens to me all the time.  I was so damn funny at 5:00 AM and now it’s 10:09 and I’m in a foul mood.

So yeah, that sucks.  At any rate, today is Daniel’s first day of school of his senior year and I can’t help but feel conflicted.  On the one hand I’m excited that soon he’s going to be off to college like his sisters and my life is going to go onto the next stage but at the same time, I can’t believe this whole “child-raising” thing is almost over.

On top of all that, there’s so much bullshit to be done that it’s exasperating.  Although Daniel had ALL summer, he just informed me that his Drivers License has expired and he needs it renewed.  He KNEW this all summer but didn’t get around to it and now that he’s back in school with homework, college admissions and the like he just realized that he’s busy.

When I pointed out that to get on a plane to go visit colleges he would need an ID he said “can’t I just use my passport?” which reminded me that it TOO expires in December therefore he can’t leave the country because they won’t let you use it if it’s within 6 months of expiration.  Normally this would be no big deal but I was thinking of going somewhere at Christmas as sort of a MacDonald family last hurrah.

With Daniel off to college next year and Keely actually graduating, I have NO IDEA when we will all be able to get together again.  Assuming Keely gets a job (I hope) then I doubt she’ll have the luxury of going on vacation whenever I want to therefore I am attempting to convince Kevin that we should vacate while we can.

Of course, he’s not buying it giving me all the compelling reasons why we shouldn’t go on a vacation but I’ve never let that deter me in the past so why start now?

But back to my incredible mental processes.  Ironically, all the shit I’m writing about right this minute wasn’t even on the list.  That’s because Kevin has told me to “get some stuff” done around here.  (NOTE TO READERS:  I HATE GETTING STUFF DONE AROUND HERE)  That stuff includes:

Getting the dishwasher fixed (we have to shim the door for it to work)

Getting the Master Bathroom Shower fixed (we have no temperature control)

Getting Daniels Shower Fixed (there seems to be a leak in my family room ceiling…STILL)

Cleaning out the attic (OK, this one was my idea…there’s SO MUCH STUPID STUFF UP THERE)

Doing the paperwork (my enemy)

Getting multiple cars inspected (how is this my problem? My car is fine!)

Getting Daniel’s passport fixed (uggghhh….dealing with this drives me nuts)

Harassing Daniel to fill out college forms (this also sucks)

Getting Daniels Senior Portrait taken (haven’t gotten around to this)

Picking up pet food for the animals (unlikely they’ll starve)

Getting keys made for the kids (Daniel got locked out and had to CALL us and wake us up to get inside)

Find a sculpture space (this I want to do)

So you see?  I have lots of crap to do and it always puts me in a bad mood.  When you add that to the fact that Kevin and I rented a UHaul truck to move couches and stuff down to Duke yesterday, which by the way was a WHOLE LOT OF HEAVY LIFTING THEREFORE I’M BONE TIRED, you can see why I’m just a whiney little bitch today.

Well, this post sucks and I suck too but you know what?  I really don’t give a shit.  I’ve made a couple of calls, run one errand and now written this little ranty thingie so I think I’ll just chill on the couch with my dog and drink coffee.

Fuck these chores … don’t like this post? Fuck you too…

I would chill on the sofa with the dog too, except she really smells so i have no desire to lie on the couch with her and the alternative is giving her a bath … and ugh … who has time?

get that sculpture spot task up to no. 1!

As a stay-at-home mom it really annoys me when my husband comes home and asks “What have you done all day.” He thinks I sit on the sofa and eat bonbons all day … Really should go on strike and let them fend for themselves one day …

Well, my husband isn’t like that…he knows I occasionally accomplish something. Go on strike … Good thinking

My to do list is heinous as well, but at least I don’t have to worry about a husband nagging me. Ditched his sorry ass 10 yrs ago. So if anyone gets mad, it’s me, and then I just pull a Scarlett O’Hara “I’ll just think about it tomorrow”, and then I forget the next day what is was I needed to do cuz I was too lazy to write it down. I love PROCRASTINATION

      Thanks…but sorry about the iPad…

  9. My to do list for home and for work is massive too. Then I get completely overwhelmed and can’t seem to do ONE tiny thing. Ugh.

I feel your pain. I’m thinking of learning to delegate and then say, “It’s not my problem if you don’t do what you’re supposed to do.”

Don’t think I’ll be successful at it though. No one around here understands delegation.

Hi, I just found your blog. As soon as I read that it is not for the easily offended I HAD to read on. I completely agree. That sucks! I am a new mom (2 yr old & 4 yr old). I seriously can’t imagine my boys being in high school or *gasp* college. Or preparing them for college. Or senior portraits, passports, drivers licenses (holy shit), and college applications. I feel for you.

Sammiches! Go get a stack of sandwiches from your favorite sandwich shop. Then go back home. Chill on the couch. Eat yer sandwich. If anybody later says, “What are you doing? Didn’t you have a lot to do today?” You ask them, “You want a sandwich?” They’ll say, “Why, yes! Thank you!” You say, “Fuck off.” AND KEEP THE SANDWICH.

If they press you on the sandwich issue all you gotta do is start at the top of the list. “Well, I suppose I could give you ONE sandwich… but that darn dishwasher…”

I wonder, this: how much will you change , and your posts change, when you are sculpting?

Really. I think a lot: because you’ll be seeing immediate results from your labor: and you’ll be getting lost in what makes you feel alive.

    It’ll be neat to see.

not sure if it’ll change much except for the time situation. Although sculpting is immediate it’s also so SLOW and painstaking so we will see. Still looking for a space since no artists really want to be around the mess. Looking at a warehouse this week. We shall see.

I like the immediate gratification of writing and then posting. Hopefully what will change is that i literally won’t care about my stats but we shall see what we shall see.

Thanks for dropping by Alexandra! Hope you have a great day
