In which they kind of caulked … but not really

Maximus

Do you ever wonder if the entire point of workmen is to drive you crazy? I do and here’s why.

A few months ago (probably about 4) Kevin and I noticed that there seemed to be a water stain on our ceiling.  After a few weeks (because who really gets around to doing anything anymore?) we went to the crawl space above our bedroom and sure enough there seemed to be some water accumulation.

Kevin, after checking it out, deemed that we needed a “roof guy” to come in and check the “gutter joint” or some sort of joint that used the work gutter.  Also I don’t mean the gutters because that’s an entirely different guy.

No he meant the seam where two roof parts join.  I know I’m describing this poorly but basically I think the flashing needed to be caulked.  This reminded me that I had been told that the flashing needed to be caulked so I did what anybody would have done at the time and that’s forget about it.

But now I called the roof guy.  And called.  And called and eventually when I was a thousand years old he called me back.  Then he said he’d meet me and he didn’t and he didn’t but finally he did.

So we looked at the joint and I also explained that all the flashing needed to be checked and re-caulked and he said ok and that was a month and a half ago.

Nothing … crickets … WTF … Kevin asking about the roof.  And asking again.

I think you get the picture.

So finally Kevin is getting a little fed up (with both me AND the roof guy) because let’s face it, I sort of suck.  So he calls someone who recommended the guy and that guys says “I’ll call him” and what do you know this morning I was out with Tucker and the roof guy shows up.

Roof guy:                    is it still leaking?

Me:                              what do you mean still?

RG:                              my guys came out and caulked it

Me:                              they did?

RG:                              yes

Me:                              was I here?

RG:                              I don’t know, I wasn’t there

Me:                              did they leave a note?

RG:                              I don’t know, I wasn’t there

Me:                              well I was never informed and I was never billed so I seriously had no idea anyone was ever here

RG:                              well I’ll get up on the roof and check it out

Me:                              did they caulk all the flashing?

RG:                              I don’t know

Me:                              well I was informed that all the flashing needed to be checked and re-caulked

RG:                              let me get up there

So he gets up there and they DID fix the leak but apparently all the flash caulking needs to be changed out and although I was feeling guilty for calling him again and again and he had apparently been here, now I don’t because they didn’t do it all anyways.

The big question is: will they ever come back and finish the job?  Stay tuned for this riveting tale of caulk, flashing and desperation.

We bought a “fixer upper”many because The Mister saw the potential in the bones of our house. I know for a FACT, without any hesitation or doubt ~ ALL WORKMEN SUCK!
    (Well, most of them.)
