Have you guys been watching the Olympics? Usually I’m incredibly into them but this year not so much. I don’t know why, maybe because I always know the results before it actually comes on TV. At any rate Andie came home on Saturday night to hang out with Kevin and myself.
She was going up to DC but they expected a snowstorm and she couldn’t afford to get stuck up there so she downgraded to her parents. Aren’t we lucky? So we were hanging out on Sunday and watching the Olympics.
At first we were watching ski jumping and we were all getting a little bored until we realized that Andie had put on the wrong channel and there were better events on the main NBC channel.
We changed channels and the Biathlon was on. I don’t know about you but just watching that event makes me exhausted. So this was the ladies biathlon and they ski around this course and then they have to stop and shoot at some targets and then they do the same thing again so as you can imagine, it’s incredibly exciting. If they miss a target than they have to do a PENALTY LAP and as the commentators said, that adds an extra 20 seconds or so onto their time.
Andie was curious how such a strange combo came to be and we surmised that it was all these northern Europeans having to hunt their own food in a place that is basically full of snow all the time. Anyhow, as we were watching we decided that it would be a much more fun spectator activity if there were people also shooting at the athletes as they skied around.
I don’t mean with REAL ammunition but they could use paintball stuff couldn’t they? That way it would be much more exciting because the skiers wouldn’t want to stay all bunched up together and in the same tracks. They’d have to dodge around a bit more and I think from a TV viewing perspective it’d be much more interesting? Now what they do is just stack up and then make a break for it at the end.
I can’t even imagine the excitement the commentators would have because they get all riled up over nothing already. Imagine if they actually had something crazy to talk about?
I’ve noticed that nobody ever takes me up on these terrific suggestions but sometimes I think we should just spice these games up.
What do you guys think??
