In which we’re heading to ESPN

So yesterday I told you about the trip to Boston which went awry (to say the least) and that was a lead up to this story.  Basically, I can rarely find anything that Kevin will love because he’s so damn persnickety about what he wants.  Therefore, I rarely buy him a present.

However, I was looking on CharityBuzz which is a website that has auctions on it.  As you know, Kevin is a HUGE sports fan.  He loves Boston teams but even beyond that he loves sports.  He loves a good game and I would say his favorite thing in the world is NCAA March Madness.  Therefore, between him and Daniel ESPN SportsCenter was always on in this house.

Actually, I kind of miss it now that Daniel is gone because it was always on in the background.  At any rate, while perusing CharityBuzz I saw a prize that was “A Day for 3 people watching NFL TODAY on Sunday morning” up at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut.

Basically, three people would get to watch NFL Today from behind the scenes and then watch the football games with the ESPN analysts; people like Chris Berman, Mike Ditka, Chris Carter and a few others.  Those are the guys that Kevin and Daniel watch every Sunday so I finally decided that I would bid on the day.

Guess what? I won…you heard me, I won the day.  The kids thought Kevin would like it but I figured he’d be ticked off that I spent the money but I told him and he was a little psyched.  Daniel was VERY psyched.

They contacted me and pretty soon, I had established a funny email relationship with one of the head honchos at ESPN (I’m an awesome emailer by the way).  After explaining to him that we loved SportsCenter and that Kevin was a Pats fan he told me that he could get us some tickets to a Pats game.

As it turned out, they were playing at home that night (Sunday) up in Foxborough, which is about a 2 hour drive.  John (the guy I was talking to) said that he was hoping to set up a behind the scenes tour of SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL on NBC for us.  By now, Kevin and Daniel were dying for the day.

As a result, Kevin has been quizzing me on my NFL knowledge.  Now I know pretty much about football but I’m not so great with who is in what conference?  We’ve been working on it but I have no short-term memory and I’m awful.  It’s literally like that scene in Diner where the fiancée gets quizzed before she can get married.

So that’s why I’m distracted.  Well, one of the reasons.  So we leave on Dec 15th and the day is on Dec 16th. I’m psyched although a little concerned that I will freeze to death at a Sunday night game in Massachusetts.

At any rate, I figure that by the end of the day I’ll be a cohost on sports center and NFL Sunday night football.  After all, nobody can talk shit better than me.

So that’s what I’m up to.  How about you???
