This blog is not for the light-hearted or easily offended. If either one of those descriptions applies to you, i would suggest you start drinking before you read this blog. A sense of humor is suggested. If you don't have one that sucks for you … find one and get a life!
I don’t know about you guys but I had to take a drivers license test before they actually gave me a driver’s license. First I had to take a written test so that I could assure them that I knew the rules and THEN I had to take a driving test before they actually let me drive.
I’m only saying that because the sheer number of people who don’t understand the school bus rules is astonishing and I can’t figure out how they managed to pass the test.
You see, I live near a school and I live near roads and I live near kids therefore there are school buses around.
Nothing drives me crazier than when people stop for school buses when they are in situations that they don’t have to.
I shall endeavor to explain:
Rule 1: On ANY two-lane road (that’s one lane in each direction folks) you must, MUST, stop for a stopped school bus. This is in both directions. You have to stop.
Rule 2: On ANY three-lane road with a middle turning lane (technically two-lanes with a turning lane) you MUST stop for a stopped bus. This rule is for both directions as well. That’s because they pick up kids from both sides of the road.
Rule 3: On ANY four-lane road (two lanes in each direction) you MUST stop for a stopped school bus. This is also in either direction you are going.
Ok, so 2, 3 or 4 lane roads you MUST stop in either direction. Get it?
Rule 4: On ANY five-lane road (two lanes each direction with a turning lane in the center) you ONLY need to stop if you are behind the bus. That is you are actually moving in the same direction of the bus.
All you stupid people who are going in the other direction and create a huge logjam on the road, you are screwing up. They do not allow kids to cross a road with a turning lane that’s over 3 lanes. Therefore, you are stopping for no reason.
These people aggravate the hell out of me since this happens regularly 9 months a year.
Rule 5: Any divided highway you must stop for a stopped school bus that is moving in the same direction as you are going.
So, to all the morons who stop when they don’t have to please learn the fucking rules.
Yours truly,
Lynn MacDonald
My friend rear ended someone because she stopped in a four lane situation for a bus and didn’t need to (maybe on the other side of the highway?). The cop ended up giving her a ticket. My friend had no idea about the law either – he just got lucky.

it drives me nuts…i live right next to a school. It happens every day
My morning route frequently has me behind people stopping unnecessarily facing a stopped oncoming school bus on a four lane road with a turn lane. It drive me crazy too.
i know right????
As annoying as this is I would say it’s better than the alternative of people NOT stopping when they are supposed to. We lived on a two lane road and my sister was almost hit once by an oncoming driver who didn’t stop when we were crossing the street.

True…although that is so truly ignorant not to stop on a two lane road
I was on a 5 lane, 2/2/and a turn, and a bus was coming in the opposite direction. It stopped. As is the law, I proceeded on. I heard all hell break loose as a car behind me stopped and honked his horn, gesturing wildly. Eventually he caught up with me at the next stoplight and rolled down his window screaming (and cursing) at me. I told him to check out the law. He continued to scream until the light turned green and I turned right to another road.
Moron.
I always wonder if that will happen to me
The situation is no better in Texas. In case you were wondering.
I would guess that it happens everywhere
I hate school busses and their damned rules. No, really, I do. But I agree they’re necessary. I just hate them.
Here’s my story…honked (and rudely jestered) at because I didn’t stop for a church bus stopping in the middle of the road. On a Sunday morning. Really? I wasn’t on school bus alert – Can’t help but wonder if my disciplinarian was headed to church themselves.
